The Gators don’t need points out of Casey Prather. Since the loss of forward Will Yeguete for the remainder of the regular season, Florida has needed Prather to bring energy and do the little things that made Yeguete invaluable. In the two games Yeguete has been out, Prather has posted a season-high 12 points in each of them, but that’s not where his true value to the Gators comes.

Florida coach Billy Donovan says one of his team's biggest challenges Tuesday when the No. 7 Gators play host to No. 25 Kentucky is contending with the Wildcats' length and size in the frontcourt.

According to Thomas Goldkamp of GatorBait.net, Loucheiz Purifoy pled not guilty to the misdemeanor charge of possession of cannabis. Purifoy was the passenger in a car when a bag of marijuana was thrown out the window.

South Carolina has always produced a high quality of high school football players over the years and the Florida Gators are taking notice. The Gators have set their sights on a defensive end prospect from Orangeburg (SC) Orangeburg Wilkinson Senior High School.

Florida announced on Wednesday that right-hander Karsten Whitson is out indefinitely with shoulder fatigue. The original plan was to sit him for the first two weeks of the season and make his first start against Miami, but the Gators will take a cautious approach and shut Whitson down for an undisclosed amount of time. The Gators will continue preparing for Friday’s season opener without him.
