It may be a bit early for such grand pronouncements, but the Golden Gophers Big Ten season has reached a crossroads. We know they can not beat teams ranked #5 on home, road, or neutral floors. We also don't know where the Gophers sit in the Big Ten pecking order. Losing to highly ranked teams is fine if there is consistent effort and the game is close throughout. Unfortunately...
At Louisville, forward Jared Swopshire was just a role player for a team loaded with talent. On this Northwestern squad, the fifth-year senior must be a leader. In the Wildcats' 55-48 victory over No. 12 Minnesota, they wouldn't have won without Swopshire.
It's not easy for a freshman to make an immediate impact on a new team. Northwestern guard Kale Abrahamson is still learning his role in the starting lineup. While remaining confident, Abrahamson is working through a recent funk, all as he grows as a player.
