On Friday, the Maine Red Claws selected Jeremiah Rivers, Doc's oldest son, in the fifth round of the 2012 NBA Development League Draft. Rivers played college basketball at Georgetown University, before transferring to Indiana University. Unlike his younger brother Austin, Jeremiah was not drafted in the NBA draft and has had a tough road to the NBA.
After going undrafted after graduation from Indiana, Rivers signed with Mega Vizura from Serbia in August 2011. He injured his ankle in January and missed the rest of the 2011–12 season. He played 14 games for the Serbian team, scoring 6.2 points per game.
He had double ankle surgery and while still rehabbing, he played with the New York Knicks summer league team in Las Vegas this past summer. He averaged 3.5 points and 1.8 rebounds in four games with the New York Knicks. His ankles were still a concern, however and he wasn't able to play up to his capabilities.
