Russ Smith’s excellent play this season is really starting to get some attention on a national level. Smith has cracked the top ten on the CBS Sports player of the race watch list. Ten players are listed each week. Russ came in at No. 10, following his career high 31 point performance against UMKC. 10. RUSS SMITH–PREV. N/A G | 6-0 | JR | LOUISVILLE Smith makes his share of mistakes, but he’s also capable of making huge plays. He went for 31 points, grabbed seven boards and dished out five assists in a rout of UMKC. He’s also one of the better on-ball defenders in the country. Smith is averaging 20.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 3.3 steals while shooting 39 percent from long range. Nine games into the season, Russ is averaging 20.3 points per game. He is currently 19th in the country in scoring. Smith is shooting 48% from 2-PT range and 33% from behind the 3-PT arc. He is the only player in the country that is currently averaging more than 20 points and 3 steals per game.
