If you would have told any Louisville fan 2 years ago that Russ Smith would be a Naismith Award candidate in his career, they would have looked at you like you had 2 heads. But the once far fetched thought has become a reality.
Not only has Russ stolen the heart of many Louisville fans, he has become a household name all around the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Smith is averaging a team high 18.4 points while driving one of the best defensive backcourts in all of college basketball. I don’t think that Smith will actually win the Naismith award, but to even get onto the list of 30 players is quite the accomplishment inside of itself.
Congratulations to Russ Smith and his family on such a big accomplishment in what we all hope to be a long and prosperous career playing the game of basketball.
Here is a list of all 30 players that were named finalist :

Louisville junior guard Russ Smith has been named as one of thirty finalists for the 2013 John Wooden Award. The top 30 candidates were selected by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances to this point in the 2013 men’s college basketball season. In late March, the Naismith Trophy voting academy will narrow down the list...
With the end of the college basketball regular season quickly approaching, multiple Louisville Cardinals are approaching school records and career milestones.
Russ Smith is now just 15-points away from reaching Louisville 1,000th point club. He currently has 985 for his career. Smith has made 146 free throws on the season. The current school record for most free throws made in a...

Could this dunk by Louisville Cardinals sophomore Chane Behanan go down as the best dunk of the college basketball season?Leading 21-16 with just under five minutes to go in the first half, Behanan intercepts an errant pass around midcourt, takes a couple of dribbles, and proceeds to go full speed at the rim. The only thing standing in his way is Blue Demons senior Worrel Clahar...
Louisville got off to a very slow start on Wednesday night at DePaul, falling behind 8-0 within the first couple of minutes. Louisville stormed back scoring nine unanswered points and never looked back.
There is no denying how sloppy Louisville looked at times, but 42-points in the paint and 23-points off of turnovers helped the Cards cruise to a 79-58 win over DePaul. Louisville...
With Louisville hitting the road on Tuesday to take on DePaul, Rick Pitino held his weekly radio show on Monday evening. It was a pretty standard broadcast from Coach Pitino and the voice of the Cardinals, Paul Rogers.
When taking questions from the audience, one fan asked Pitino why Wayne Blackshear and Luke Hancock both appear to play better when coming off of the bench. Without...
Score: No. 10 Louisville 79, DePaul 58
Star(s): Louisville: Russ Smith 17 Pts, 4 Reb, 6 Ast. (also joined the 1,000 point club tonight)
Story: Either DePaul entered its home game hot or Louisville came out bitterly cold, but the Blue Demons started out the half up 8-0. After the Cards finally warmed up and got on the board, they made a 10-0 run of their own.
After seven U of L...
Last March it was the infamous infra red uniforms that Louisville sported in the post season that caught the college basketball world by storm. Okay, maybe that’s a stretch, but still. They were pretty awesome, right?
Louisville looked as bad as they could at the end of the regular season. With new swag courtesy of Adidas, it was a new team we saw in the post season. It was reported...
Remains to be seen whether Rick Pitino will be elected to the Naismith Hall of Fame this year.
But his University of Louisville basketball team will be among eight teams participating in the pre-season Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Uncasville, Conn. next season.
The field will also include North Carolina, Richmond, Fairfield, Belmont, Hofstra, Holy...
Hold on to your seats Louisville Cardinals fans, adidas has unvieled their funky, sleeved camo uniforms that the Cards will sport during March Madness.
MADISON, Wis. Four months ago, Jared Berggren didn't even make a list of one online media outlet's top 50 big men in college basketball. Considering how far below the radar he has flown, his latest accomplishment is especially noteworthy.
Berggren, Wisconsin's senior forward, has been selected as one of 30 finalists for the 2013 Naismith Award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club...
Imagine dropping one of the best dunks of your life on ESPNU and some punk ref calls you for an offensive foul. Imagine that your knee is eye level with the dude taking the charge.
You know what sucks about college basketball these days? Offensive fouls. Specifically charges. The good news last night during Louisville’s 79-58 win over DePaul is that the refs changed this to a...
Former Louisville cornerback Adrian Bushell participated at Tuesday’s NFL Draft Combine. Bushell is the only former Cardinal that received an invite to the 2013 combine.
Although his combine results might not have shown it, Bushell has been attracting attention from multiple NFL teams and is currently being projected as a mid-round draft pick.
Bushell’s Combine Results:
The 10th ranked Louisville Cardinals squad won their fourth straight with a 79-58 victory over the Blue Demons at Allstate Arena on Wednesday night.
Measuring in at 5-foot-9, 186 pounds, he may be listed "small" by scouts, but there's no question Adrian Bushell plays big. He's certainly thinking big in Indianapolis this week for the NFL Scouting Combine. The Louisville cornerback (formerly of the University of Florida out of Texas product house DeSoto High) was quick to credit Coach Charlie Strong in helping...
