ST. LOUIS Saint Louis men's basketball senior forward Cody Ellis (Australia) and junior forward Rob Loe (New Zealand) have returned to their home countries in an attempt to earn a spot on their national teams for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Ellis recently was invited to partake in a tryout and training camp for the Australia Boomers, the Aussie national team. Australia has qualified for the London Olympics and will play several international events leading up to the Games, including a three-game series against China in Western Australia beginning June 9. The Boomers also play in The Farewell Series in Australia June 24-28 against Greece. Loe is in New Zealand for a camp in preparation for the 2012 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will be held July 2-8 in Caracas, Venezuela. The tournament consists of 12 national teams, with the top three finishers earning a spot in the Olympics. New Zealand coach Nenad Vucinic is expected to name the team in early June. Ellis and Loe have a wealth of international experience already. The two were members of their respective national teams at the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand. Last summer, Loe was chosen to represent New Zealand in the Oceana Championship, a series against Australia with the winner automatically qualifying for the Olympic Games. The 2012 Olympic Games in London are scheduled for July 27 August 12.
