Fox Sports Detroit:
Former Michigan forward Evan Smotrycz will transfer to Maryland.
Word of the transfer came via Twitter nearly four weeks after it was announced that he and two others, sophomore forward Colton Christian and freshman guard Carlton Brundidge, would be leaving the program.
The 6-foot-9 sophomore from Reading, Mass., was a key piece in his time at Michigan. He played in all 69 games during his two-year tenure with the program, averaging 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 19.4 minutes per game.
Because Maryland is a Division 1 school, Smotrycz will have to sit out the 2012-13 season because of NCAA transfer rules.
