Nick Russell scored 25 points and Jalen Jones added 24 points as SMU held on for a 78-75 victory over Texas State on Saturday night. SMU (3-0) maintained its focus at the free-throw line most of the night, converting 24 of 28 attempts. Jones also contributed eight rebounds. Teammate Ryan Manuel scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Texas State (2-1) was led by Joel Wright, who scored 28 points. Wesley Davis scored 14 points and came up with four steals. SMU held a 14-10 advantage in second-chance points and a 10-8 edge in fast-break points.
