Wednesday night’s game was a big one for SMU for many reasons.

It was the final home game of the season and the Mustangs celebrated it with Senior Night. They have one last game after Wednesday before the Mustangs head into the AAC Championship tournament. Also, the Mustangs had lost their last three games after winning six-straight.

The Mustangs got their much-needed win in exciting fashion.

Playing in their first overtime game of the season, the Mustangs won their 20th game of the year in an 80-77 victory against East Carolina.

Zhuric Phelps hit a three-pointer with 5.4 seconds left in regulation to tie the game 65-65. Ricardo Wright made another three-point shot to start overtime to take a 68-65 lead and SMU never relinquished the lead.

Phelps finished the game with 15 points and was a perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe. Chuck Harris led SMU with 16 points, three assists and one steal. Wright had 10 points and five rebounds.

Samuell Williamson was one of five seniors playing their final game at Moody Coliseum, and made it a night to remember. Williamson tied his season-high 13 rebounds in his final game at Moody Coliseum.

SMU wraps up its regular season with a road trip to Alabama. The Mustangs will face UAB on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and broadcast on radio on KAAM 770 AM in the DFW area.
