Found March 16, 2012 on The Daily Rival:

It didn’t take long for the first racist chant to occur during the first full day on March Madness on Thursday, but lo, in the very first game of the day between Southern Miss and Kansas State, K-State guard Angel Rodriguez was subjected to a “Where’s your green card?” cheer from reportedly the Southern Miss band on at least one occasion. Rodriguez is from Puerto Rico (the Southern Miss band must be Santorum supporters), and it’s unclear whether he actually heard the taunt. One instance was picked up on TV and subsequently made its way around the Internet.

The administration of Southern Miss responded swiftly, issuing a statement from the university’s president, Martha Saunders:

We deeply regret the remarks made by a few students at today’s game. The words of these individuals do not represent the sentiments of our pep band, athletic department or university. We apologize to Mr. Rodriguez and will take quick and appropriate disciplinary action against the students involved in this isolated incident.

Appropriate punishment? How about having them walk home all the way from where the game was held — Pittsburgh.

Southern Miss Band Leads for NCAA Tourney Legends with ridiculous Race Taunt

Do we expect better from Mississippi born band players? Kansas State’s Angel Rodriguez is from Puerto Rico, so that basically makes him an American citizen by birth (Someone fact check me?). Even with Southern Miss down 6 at the end of the game with 14 seconds left, Rodriguez went to the FT line and USM band still let him hear it. Dedication to the taunt, I like that. [Follow...
