The Cardinal Connect:
With the 2012-13 college basketball season quickly approaching, the Sporting News has been flooding their college hoops section of the website with content this week. Yesterday they released their pre-season All American Teams along with a list of players who could have breakout seasons. Today they released their full preseason top 25 poll. Louisville came in at No. 2 behind only Indiana.
In determining a No. 1 team, we considered Indiana and Louisville and found that the primary difference is that Louisville has a lot of very good players and IU has an obviously great one. But “very good” has won the national title in recent years, most notably with Duke in 2010. And it’s not inconceivable that Louisville guard Wayne Blackshear could turn out to be special, or that point guard Peyton Siva (pictured) or center Gorgui Dieng could continue evolving in that direction. The Cardinals have all the depth, size and experience necessary to contend for the NCAA title. — Mike De...

Kuric is one of the many former Louisville players who are playing professional overseas...
On yesterday afternoon’s radio show I spent the first segment talking about Mike Marra’s torn ACL and how it will affect this year’s team. I realize the news was a little dated, but Tuesday was my first opportunity to really discuss it in full length.
When mentioning some of the brighter moments in Mike’s Louisville career, a caller reminded me of a video on YouTube of Marra...

Charlie Strong has brought in a quarterback in each of the last three recruiting class. Teddy Brigdewater in 2011, Will Gardner 2012 and now Kyle Bolin in 2013. I didn’t expect the quarterback position to be a focus for Louisville’s 2014 class, but Drew Barker, a 6-foot-3 pro-style quarterback from Conner High School in Burlington, Kentucky holds an offer from the Cards.
The University of Louisville football team is just five games into the season but already coach Charlie Strong is rumored as a candidate for other jobs next season. Strong was asked about the rumors on a national radio show and then responded to local reporters after Wednesday’s practice.
Here are a few post-game interviews from Louisville’s 21-17 win over Southern Miss on Saturday evening. Video credits go to Mark Blankenbaker of CardsandCats.com who was in Hattiesburg for the game. Despite the struggle, Charlie Strong appears to be pleased with the way his time held it together and came back to win.
