Syracuse is in position to deal a blow to the NCAA tournament hopes of one of its biggest rivals. The second-ranked Orange look to stretch their win streak to nine games Saturday night when they visit Gampel Pavilion to face Connecticut, which continues to play without coach Jim Calhoun. Syracuse (28-1, 15-1) has guaranteed a share of the Big East title heading into this rematch. The Orange closed on a 22-6 run in their 85-67 home win over Connecticut (17-10, 7-8) on Feb. 11. "Connecticut played us evenly for almost the whole game here and then we had a spurt at the end so we know how difficult they can be, it was a two-point game here," coach Jim Boeheim said.
