Temple University senior Juan Fernandez helped his Argentinian squad in a loss against Canada in the Pan-American Games on Wednesday, scoring 10 points in his Pan-Am debut. No stranger to international competition, the senior point guard has also played for his home country in the U-18 World Championships in 2008, and in the U-19 tournament a year later.
Overall, the six-foot-four Fernandez played just under 20 minutes of the 83-79 overtime loss, scoring 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting, including making two of his four shots from behind the arc, and both of his free throw attempts. He also chipped in an assist, but also picked up his fifth foul in the overtime session and had to finish the game on the bench.
Fernandez scored six points in the first half, but began the second half on the bench with three fouls. After sitting out the entirety of the third, he entered to begin the fourth and played a key role down the stretch as Argentina tried to hold off Canada for the final ten minutes...
