Marshall’s Sophomore DeAndre Kane for the 2nd consecutive season led the entire NCAA in technical fouls with 7. His attitude goes hand-in-hand with Marshall’s team name, the “Thundering Herd”. But hey, I guess if you’re the best player on the team it’s justified?

Mark Webb/The Herald-Dispatch

Last year the guard was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year, and this season Kane improved and led the team in Minutes, Points, and Steals. He averaged 16.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and 3.5 apg, and 1.4 spg contributing to Marshall’s 21-14 record. Kane made a name for himself at the end of the season dropping 40 points in a Triple OT win against Tulsa; this game marked Kane’s 7th time scoring 20 or more. Kane is already 41st overall on the Marshall all-time scoring list, and he is on pace to break the top 5.

It’s unbelievable to me that a player can lead the league in techs two straight years. Kane is too good, and even too old to be a hothead and cost his team points with technical fouls. Next year I’m making a bold prediction that Kane will average around 20 ppg. I’m positive he’ll get himself on the map and make some noise, but if he continues to have an attitude I guarantee his draft stock will drop just like it did to Derrick Caracter, Daniel Orton, Devin Ebanks, and Jack McClinton.  It would be extremely upsetting to see DeAndre’s talent go to waste if he doesn’t get his attitude straightened out. If this dude gets more than 5 technical fouls there’s no reason why the school or the NCAA shouldn’t punish him to set an example for the rest of these college athletes.

But psychologically speaking, clearly DeAndre Kane is sensitive.
