Tim Hardaway Jr. hit just one of his 11 shots on Tuesday night, as Michigan endured a 75-52 beatdown at the hands of Michigan State. That’s the third time in three years that Hardaway has struggled in East Lansing — he’s now 5-for-33 on Michigan State’s home court, with the Wolverines posting a 1-2 record in that time. Hardaway was not alone in his struggles this time. Aside from national Player of the Year candidate Trey Burke, who put home 18 points, the Wolverines were a mess on both ends of the court. Their loss dropped them to 21-4 overall, with all four losses coming in the Big Ten. Michigan currently sits in fourth place in the conference, two games back of Michigan State. And with all that in mind, Hardaway took to Twitter Wednesday to say sorry to Michigan fans for his team’s putrid effort against the Spartans: Would like to apologize to our fans, alum, UofM, and all of wolverine nation for the performance displayed lastnight. Will not happen again. — Tim Hardaway (@t_hard10) February 13, 2013 We will learn from our mistakes and get better as a TEAM. God bless you all. — Tim Hardaway (@t_hard10) February 13, 2013 Michigan’s schedule will provide it an opportunity to turn things around — the Wolverines host Penn State on Sunday, then Illinois a week later, before visiting Penn State to close February. Should the Wolverines go 3-0 there, they’d still be very much in the hunt when Michigan State visits Ann Arbor on March 4 for a rematch.
