Inside the Hall:
Indiana coach Tom Crean joined SiriusXM’s “Inside College Basketball” show Tuesday evening and talked to Jeff Goodman and Bruce Pearl about the suspensions of Peter Jurkin and Hanner Mosquera-Perea.
His comments are below.
On the facts of the case, specifically Mark Adams being labeled a booster for donations from 1986-1992: “The facts are pretty self-explanatory when you really read through it and that’s really what it is. Now there’s going to be an appeal process, I don’t know how you couldn’t when you get something like that.”
On the team’s depth, and the ruling’s effects on Jurkin and Masquera-Perea: “There’s no question that that hurts us. And they are going to play for this team, there’s no question they’re contributors in this program right away. The bigger concern right now is for both Hanner and Peter individually. Because right now, they don’t really know why this is happening. And it’s really hard for us to explain it to them because I don’t really know why thi

Early this evening, the NCAA and Indiana released separate press releases on the status of Peter Jurkin and Hanner Mosquera-Perea. The NCAA has ruled the players must each sit nine games and donate money to charity.
Here’s IU’s release:
Calling Indiana University’s corrective actions “substantial and meaningful,” the NCAA on October 31, 2012, ac- cepted as secondary a...
Two freshmen on Indiana’s #1 ranked basketball team, 6’8″ forward Hanner Mosquera-Perea and 7’0″ center Peter Jurkin, have each been suspended nine games by the NCAA. Why? Their former AAU coach/legal guardian donated $185 to Indiana 20 years ago, and apparently the NCAA counts that as receiving impermissible benefits. I’m not joking.
It was announced earlier this evening that two freshman of the Indiana basketball team, Hanner Mosquera-Perera and Peter Jurkin, have received suspensions by the NCAA after receiving impermissible benefits from a person the NCAA determined to be a Hoosiers booster and must now both sit out 9 games to start the season.
Mosquera-Perera and Jurkin must also pay $1,590 and $250...
The NCAA has agreed to reinstate two Indiana freshmen basketball players after they serve nine-game suspensions and repay a portion of the impermissible benefits they received before arriving on campus.
Hanner Mosquera-Perea must pay back $1,590 to a charity of his choice. Jurkin will be required to repay $250 to a charity of his choice. Both players will miss the first nine games...
Indiana has been selected as the preseason No. 1 by Sports Illustrated and the magazine has selected Cody Zeller for one of its four regional covers for this week’s issue.
Here’s the complete release from Sports Illustrated:
(NEW YORK – Nov. 6, 2012) – This is the season Indiana basketball fans have been waiting for. The talented and experienced Hoosiers begin the season...
Depth has been cited as one of the many reasons Indiana is the preseason pick to win the national championship.
But Tom Crean has been careful in the preseason to not prematurely anoint his team as deep until he can substitute without experiencing much of a drop off in production and consistency.
A big piece to establishing that consistency from the bench is sophomore guard Remy...
Indiana's Cody Zeller is back, and he's bigger and better than ever.
The preseason All-American has grown one-half inch and added 10 to 15 pounds of muscle. He's worked on his 3-point shot and hopes to include that in this season's repertoire, too, after not attempting a 3 all last season.
And he's the biggest reason the Hoosiers are ranked No. 1 as they head...
Who has the stronger conference in 2012? SEC football or Big 10 basketball?
When you think of 2012 college football, first thing that comes to mind has to be the SEC Conference. They’re considered the powerhouse conference in all of collegiate football. In the recent AP Top 25 poll, the SEC has four teams ranked in the top ten and seven teams ranked altogether. Those teams are...
With last Thursday’s game against Indiana Wesleyan not hitting the Big Ten Network until Wednesday, the inaugural Film Session comes a little late this season. Onwards.
Indiana Wesleyan got off to a hot start against Indiana last Thursday thanks to an early barrage of open 3-point looks the Wildcats knocked down. A look at what went wrong for the Hoosiers defensively on three...
The Indiana Hoosiers Cody Zeller could end up achieving the same trifecta as Anthony Davis at Kentucky did last year. The Wildcats big man from Chicago won a national title, took home the college basketball player of the year award, and became the first overall pick in the NBA Draft.
Zeller may do the same this year. For those who do some online betting, the Hoosiers are the favorite...
Indiana senior Christian Watford, sophomore Cody Zeller, associate head coach Tim Buckley and coach Tom Crean met with the media Thursday to preview Friday’s season opener at Assembly Hall with Bryant.
Watch and listen to all three press conferences in the embedded media players below:
No. 1 Indiana enters Friday’s opener against Bryant with a thin frontcourt as a result of an injury to Derek Elston and suspensions to Hanner Mosquera-Perea and Peter Jurkin. But those setbacks haven’t put a damper on the team’s excitement to tip off the season.
After earning preseason accolades, gracing magazine covers and having countless pieces written by the national media...
Another season is upon us, and so, too, is another controversy.
Just days before IU is set to take on Bryant in the regular-season opener, the NCAA handed down nine-game suspensions to freshmen Hanner Mosquera-Perea and Peter Jurkin for taking “impermissible benefits” from A-HOPE founder and Indiana Elite coach Mark Adams, who was deemed an IU booster.
Herald-Times beat man...
There have some terrible acts committed under the watch of the NCAA over the years, acts that make you question the integrity of college athletics. Reggie Bush’s name comes to mind. So does Jim Tressel’s and recent allegations of academic fraud at North Carolina.
The NCAA has seen these acts, and it has likely been disgusted by them like we all have. It wanted to make sure such...
Indiana safety Mark Murphy wears his favorite Packers jersey every Sunday in Bloomington, and Hoosiers quarterback Cameron Coffman still owns a Cheesehead.
While Badgers fans may not know their names yet, Packers fans almost certainly will remember their fathers.
Murphy's dad, also Mark, is Green Bay's president and CEO. Coffman's father, Paul, was an All-Pro tight...
