As UNC Basketball comes closer and closer the polls will begin to make their way into mix. The first one, arriving from the official conference web site, is from the ACC Men’s Basketball Coaches. And while I am not a big fan of pre season polls, it’s always interesting to see what the men at the head of the programs think of one another’s teams. On a side note, one thing is for sure, Lauren Brownlow (@lebrownlow on twitter), a regular on my podcast, is going to like these standings, as the three teams from the Triangle have been placed first, second and third.

For someone like myself, who is a die hard North Carolina fan, be it UNC basketball or football or any other sport having to do with the Tar Heels, seeing this ranking gets the juices flowing. Since this campaign should be a real war at the top, with the Heels will be fighting two arch rivals in the process. Besides the three programs from the Triangle the teams to watch come from the sunshine state, in Miami (Fl) and FSU, with maybe Maryland sneaking in that group as well. After that, the rest of the conference is going to be looking mighty shaky to be nice, ugly to be honest. And that can only mean that the addition of programs such as Syracuse, as a top tier squad, and Pittsburgh and Notre Dame, as second tier teams, can only help the image of ACC basketball in years to come.
Besides the top teams the coaches also voted on the All-ACC team, along with the Player and Rookie of the Year in the conference. Here are the results for that.

I am not going to discuss if someone not on that list could have been put in place of someone that is on that list. That type of discussion could go on forever and ever and not worthwhile as it is but a list and nothing else. The one thing that I doubt many could argue about is that all the five players need to step up for their programs in order for their squads to do as well as the coaches expect them to do. Sub par performances by anyone on that list could lead their teams to have a let down in the `12-`13 season. I am also not going to argue if Carolina basketball should be ranked higher or lower, mostly because I think that they are ranked in the right spot as of now. It will depend on how the returning players, Dexter Strickland and Leslie McDonald, and the incoming freshmen, especially point guard Marcus Paige and big man Joel James, will make this squad move up or down the ACC standings and national rankings.
It might just be one poll, but the fact that they are beginning to come out means that the hardwoods season is close by and than means UNC Basketball is getting ready to play its 2012-13 campaign under head coach Roy Williams. And as usual more information about North Carolina basketball and/or football, teams and players, present and past, make sure to check back often on isportsweb!
