UNC legend Michael Jordan did a little public reminiscing today via Twitter, probably because his Tar Heels meet arch rival Duke tonight.
Jordan tweeted a photo of a recruiting letter Dean Smith sent to him and his family on Sept. 30, 1980 after he first visited the UNC campus. It’s kind of folksy and we say that because Smith was apparently fond of using the word folks. The letter starts off with “Dear Folks” and includes the line, “Fortunately, we were able to get to know you folks much better and count you as good friends.”
Sure you do, Dean.
The letter is on display at the Carolina Basketball Museum. And if you were wondering, yes, that particular museum showcases only UNC memorabilia, not stuff from all the colleges in the Carolinas.
Jordan, of course, would go on to commit to UNC in 1981 and win the 1982 National Championship. His Airness also tweeted a photo of his National Letter of Intent.

UNC's Strickland undergoes knee surgery (AP)
North Carolina junior Dexter Strickland has had surgery to repair a knee injury that will sideline him the rest of the season. Strickland had reconstructive surgery Thursday on his torn right anterior cruciate ligament as well as damaged meniscus.
