I have never been a part of a more exciting moment watching Alabama Basketball. On the day that the 100th year of Bama Basketball was honored and Andrew Steele, the lone senior was celebrated, Trevor Releford gave us a moment that we will never forget. Up 14 late in the second half, Alabama seemed to get too comfortable as the Crimson Tide let their lead slip to eventually a tie as Georgia’s Kentavious Caldwell-Pope hit a 3-pointer from NBA range with 47 seconds left.  After a timeout to draw a play up, the Tide gave Releford the ball, but a turnover around the 20-second mark gave UGA a chance for the last shot. Coleman Coliseum went dead quiet as the Tide fans prayed for overtime. 17.4 seconds on the clock. Georgia’s ball on the baseline. Trying to dribble the clock out and take the last shot, Georgia’s KCP took the ball to the hole but lost it with three seconds left. Releford grabbed the ball, dribbled to half court and let a beautiful shot fly. As it was in the air, time seemed to stand still in Coleman. Everyone just watched as the buzzer went off, and Relly’s shot swished in the net. Game Over. #Alabama guard Trevor Releford beats the buzzer to hit a game-winning three-pointer vs #Georgia. via @photovman twitter.com/LivingCrimson/… — LivingTheCrimsonLife (@LivingCrimson) March 10, 2013 Coleman collectively went crazy. Crimson Chaos members who sit on the risers on the floor ran on the court (which probably was a fine in the SEC for “storming the floor”). The refs took their sweet time deciding if the shot was good or not, but as you can see in the video below, the answer was obvious. Just as the referees made the signal that the shot was good, and Coleman erupted again, the scoreboard gave the Alabama faithful something more to cheer about. Mizzou had lost to Tennessee. Alabama finished the regular season (20-11, 12-6) tied for second in the SEC, and undefeated at home against SEC opponents. With Mizzou losing and Alabama winning, that ensured a 4-seed in the SEC Tournament and a double-bye for the Crimson Tide.
