On Monday, legendary Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim became just the third coach in NCAA men's basketball history to reach 900 career victories. He did so after his team stayed undefeated (10-0) by knocking off visiting Detroit, 72-68, in the Gotham Classic. Naturally, the media wanted to hear from the 68-year old coach after the game. Boeheim used his post-game news conference to comment on something else besides the game itself. Instead, he chimed in on the shooting massacre that took the lives of 26 people at an elementary school in Connecticut on Friday."If we in this country as Americans cannot get the people who represent us to do something about firearms, we are a sad, sad society," Boeheim said.Boeheim went on to touch upon the controversial issue of gun control:"If one person in this world, the NRA president, anybody, can tell me why we need assault weapons with 30 shots -- this is out fault if we don't go out there and do something about this. If we can't get this thing done, I don't know what kind of country we have," concluded Boeheim.Boeheim, in his 37th year at his alma mater, boasts a record of 900-304. Only Mike Krzyzewski (934) and Bob Knight (902) have tallied more wins than Boeheim. Via USA Today.
