Even since John Callipari took over the head coaching position as Kentucky, they have brought in some of the best recruits in the country. It seems like every year the Wildcats get at least four amazing freshmen with a ton of swag that go pro after one year of college ball. This trend was started by John Wall and Demarcus Cousins, who made college basketball their own personal show.

When these two played at Kentucky, they were a force to be reckoned with. The Wildcats were on national television nearly every time they played and drew a sell-out in every gym they played in. Naturally, this left the Wildcats with a target on their back and every school they played brought their A game. However, this did not really matter as they finished 35-3.

When Kentucky hit the road to play a tough Mississippi State team, the fans tried to provide their Bulldogs with a little edge. One way or another, Mississippi State’s student body got a hold of Demarcus Cousins’ number and proceeded to call him all night before the game. Cousins claimed that he received too many phone calls to count, and some fans called him the n word. He also said the fans seemed surprised when he would pick up and talk trash back to them.

After grabbing an impressive offensive rebound in traffic, Cousins rose up through the defense and dunked on two Mississippi State players. He then turned to the student section, and mouthed “call me.” Kentucky went on to win the game 81-75 in overtime.

This shows how much swag and talent the Wildcat players had, and reminds me of the basketball version of the U in the 80s.
