Rick Pitino met with the media yesterday afternoon to briefly recap the Cards Big East championship and preview the NCAA tournament. Pitino was asked to share his thoughts on his team being the overall favorite. He went on to say that he wasn’t aware that many were picking Louisville to win it all and that he hopes they’re right. Pitino also added that as long as Digger Phelps keeps picking against Louisville, they’ll be fine. [H/T @UofLSherrif50]

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino calls out ESPN analyst Digger Phelps' basketball knowledge, stating "that man knows nothing."

Pitino knows what he has: a winner

There are several numbers you can point to if you want to make the argument it'll be Rick Pitino's Louisville team that cuts down the nets in Atlanta on April 8. Point to the fact that the Cardinals' pressure-filled defense is second in the nation in steals per game and turnover margin, behind only Virginia Commonwealth. Mention that they're second in the nation...

Podcast: Can Louisville escape Midwest?

ATLANTA -- The selection committee did not do the Louisville Cardinals, the NCAA tournament's No. 1 overall seed, any favors in the Midwest region. If Louisville coach Rick Pitino is to capture his second national title, he will have to guide his team through one of the most dangerous regionals: the other top seeds in the Midwest, Nos. 1 through 6, are Duke, Michigan State,...

Louisville's Chane Behanan rejected by the rim (GIF)

Louisville Cardinals forward Chane Behanan was rejected by the rim on a dunk attempt in the first half of Thursday's NCAA tournament game against North Carolina A&T. Fortunately Behanan's miss didn't matter much, as top-seeded Louisville rolled over the 16th-seeded Aggies 79-48. H/T Sports Grid. Louisville 79 – North Carolina A&T 48: Cards Collect NCAA Record 20 Steals

More often than not, I don’t enjoy games like that. When Louisville is playing an opponent like North Carolina A&T, it’s hard to not expect perfection. Tonight’s game wasn’t perfect by any means, but so far so good . Louisville had some unforced turnovers in the first half, but other than that, this one was an absolute route. As you could expect, it was all started on...

Plot in reverse as Louisville begins NCAA journey in Lexington

The bitter rivalry between the University of Louisville and Kentucky has been elevated several notches because of UofL’s remarkable success and UK’s abysmal failure in basketball. Karma depends on where one’s loyalty stands. Louisville performed as expected, winding up as the No. 2 team in the Associated Press poll while being awarded the No. 1 in the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky...

Spring Football: Louisville ready for highly anticipated spring

First Practice: March 20 Spring Game: April 13 With Teddy Bridgewater entering his third season at quarterback and riding high from that shocking upset of Florida in the Sugar Bowl, there hasn’t been a spring practice this exciting around Louisville in decades (probably ever). This will be Louisville’s final year in the Big East (until they give me a new name I don’t...

Sportz Assassin's Midwest Region Preview

TEAM TO BEAT: Louisville. The won a wicked Big East tournament and get a very favorable venue list to get to the Final Four.  I buy into the notion that guard play is paramount in the NCAA tournament and the Cardinals have that in spades. TEAM THAT WILL WIN THE REGION: Louisville. I think it is laid out pretty well for Rick Pitino's bunch.  Short trips to Lexington and Indianapolis...

March Madness Spring Football Preview

With March Madness right around the corner, what better time to start talking about Spring Football…right?  If you follow TheCardinalConnect.com closely you already know that I am one of the strange folk in this town that tends to favor the sport of football over basketball.  For those of you that just learned that…I know, basketball fan card revoked.  So, now that I made...

March Madness Lock: Trust Veteran Coaches with Final Four Experience

Of the 26 active NCAA Division I coaches with Final Four experience, 20 of them are bringing teams to this season’s Big Dance. That’s nearly a third of the 64 teams that will be alive starting tomorrow, and it’s something to keep in mind when making your final bracket selections. Coaches like Pitino, Krzyzewski and Izzo make the Midwest bracket very top-heavy. Let’s start...
