It’s been a solid last few weeks for Notre Dame on the recruiting trail. They’ve accumulated a solid three man class for 2012 so far, and now have their first commitment for 2013, 6′-7″ wing VJ Beachem of New Haven (IN), who confirmed his pledge on Twitter this afternoon. Beachem is a lengthy prospect, capable of playing either shooting guard or small forward. A priority recruit for the Fighting Irish, it was no secret that Beachem would heavily lean to Notre Dame if he ended his recruitment early.

There was heavy Big Ten interested in Beachem’s game, as he reportedly picked Notre Dame over scholarship offers from Purdue, Minnesota and Iowa, among others.

Beachem is a Top 100 player in the 2013 class, and looked good over the summer running with the talented Eric Gordon All Stars 16U team. He was previously at Harding (IN), which closed during the off-season. As a sophomore, he reportedly averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists per game. He clearly has the ability to impact a basketball game in a variety of ways.

Though he strongest suit has been on the perimeter, Beachem has made moves to develop an all-around game. With a nice package of size, athleticism and wing skills, he is a multi-talented offensive player that continues to get better as he expands his offensive game towards the hoop.

With two players in Top 100 status for 2012, Zach Auguste and Cameron Biedscheid, as well as power forward Austin Burgett, Notre Dame recruiting appears to be on the right track.
