Wendell Green Jr, who just declared for the NBA Draft (indicating that he would not be returning to Auburn), posted a graphic detailing thanks and appreciation for the staff and his teammates during his time with the Tigers.
Head coach Bruce Pearl quote tweeted Green and shared some kind words about his point guard. "One of the hardest working most competitive players I've coached!" Pearl wrote. "Wen led Auburn to back to back NCAA TOURNAMENTS and the 2022 SEC CHAMPIONSHIP."
There are rumors that Green's time with Auburn was not as smooth behind the scenes as it was on the court. There's no telling what truly happened with Green to make him decide to depart - whether it was a disagreement between him and his teammates, Aden Holloway's arrival next season with Tre Donaldson waiting in the wings, etc.
Regardless, it now seems clear that something happened, with Wendell Green Sr taking it on himself to reply to Coach Pearl's comments.
"LOL" was all Green Sr. wrote in a reply tweet to Pearl.
Again, we'll never truly know what happened, but some pretty solid guesses can be made as to what caused the quiet dissension between the Green family and Auburn.
