Wes Miller Gives Latest Injury Update on CJ Fredrick, John Newman III
USA TODAY Sports

The injury tracking continues for Cincinnati men's basketball as head coach Wes Miller updated CJ Fredrick (hamstring) and John Newman III's (torso) statuses on Thursday during his 700 WLW coach's show.

Newman suffered his ailment in Wednesday's loss to West Virginia, while Fredrick hasn't played since Dec. 22, but did go through a pregame workout at WVU.

"When we come back off the road and we have these short turnarounds we've been going in the evening the next day, just to try to give them some time to recuperate, but he did not go tonight," Miller said about Newman practicing. "I don't think it appears to be something that's long term serious, knock on wood, because I think there was worry not just about a broken rib but maybe the spleen and some other things. He couldn't breathe last night. That's why he went down. He stopped breathing, at least having normal breath. So anyway, I know this guy's, John Newman. If he can play basketball, he'll play basketball."

Newman is one of Cincinnati's most efficient scorers, while Fredrick leads the team in offensive rating. Miller essentially has no new update on Fredrick. Miller said he thinks he'll be back soon with the team getting a well-timed week break between games to maybe get him back against Houston.

"At this point. I trust that CJ is doing everything he can, our training staff, when he's back we'll incorporate him and it'll be great," Miller said. "But I'm not on the roller coaster anymore. I told him let me know when you're ready to go and I'm ready."

UC is already struggling to score in the Big 12 with half that duo, missing both against Texas Tech would be a big blow.
