Michigan is headed to its first Final Four in 20 years and now sits two games away from its second National Championship in program history. With just three games of the tournament remaining, the national media focus is all on Michigan, Syracuse, Louisville and Wichita State. We rounded up a number of national media takes on Michigan’s run to the Final Four and what the Wolverines’ chances are to win the whole thing. John Gasaway calls Michigan’s appearance in the Final Four a “qualified surprise”: Michigan wasn’t expected to make it this far — Indiana was clearly superior to the Wolverines per-possession in Big Ten play — and so John Beilein’s team certainly merits inclusion under the “surprise” label. But I think the nature of that surprise has been misunderstood, starting with the fact other recent Final Four teams (namely, again, Butler and VCU in 2011) made it this far despite even longer odds. Start with the fact there was a good deal of attention paid to the Wolverines’ defense

Beilein takes long road to Final Four

It's 927 miles from Newfane High School to the Georgia Dome. By car, the trip from Western New York to Atlanta takes about 15 hours. For John Beilein, it took 38 years. "I don't know that I would recommend my career path to anyone else, but it worked for me" the Michigan coach said before leaving for his first career Final Four. "I wouldn't change a...

Beilein's Long Path

Louisville coach Rick Pitino isn't the only Final Four coach who got a break from Syracuse's Jim Boeheim. Michigan coach John Beilein impressed the Hall of Fame coach of the Orange a long time ago and that led to some impressive recommendations.

Three reasons Michigan will, or will not, win

THREE REASONS MICHIGAN WILL WIN: TREY BURKE: It is always a big advantage to have the best player on the floor, especially if he's going to have the ball in his hands. Burke is a consensus first-team All-America and a contender for nearly every player of the year award. The only reason he probably won't be the 1 pick in June's NBA draft is that teams are nervous about...

GR3 alley-oop slam from Trey Burke helps take out the Gators

With Michigan wiping the floor with Gator blood all game long Sunday, Glenn Robinson III added insult to injury with this alley-oop slam from Trey Burke in the second half. Nothing was stopping Michigan Sunday, not even three Florida players in the lane. Truly impressive. h/t: The Big Lead

Syracuse and Wichita will be joined by…

The Big Ten was and is the best conference in college basketball, but they are the cusp of not having one representative in the Final Four. Such is life in the NCAA Tournament. Single-elimination lowers the odds, and now they pin their hopes on Michigan to defeat the Florida Gators. Can Trey Burke beat the pressure defense of Florida? Surely. We already saw Michigan destroy the vaunted...

Wolverines win South region

A basketball player in the zone can win a game. An entire team in the zone? That has Michigan in its first Final Four since the Fab Five were the biggest thing in the land. Instead of needing a Trey Burke miracle like they did against Kansas, the Wolverines blew favored Florida off the floor, booking a place in Atlanta with an easy 79-59 victory in the South region final. "...

Michigan much too much for Florida

Another fabulous group of young players has Michigan headed back to the Final Four. Led by Big Ten player of the year Trey Burke and sharp-shooting guard Nik Stauskas, one of three freshman starters, the Wolverines dominated Florida right from tipoff, scoring the game's first 13 points and routing the Gators 79-59 in the South Regional final Sunday. ''A lot of guys...

Glenn Robinson III to Trey Burke alley-oop dunk against Florida was nasty

Trey Burke and Glenn Robinson III connected on this insane alley-oop during Michigan's Elite Eight showdown against the Florida Gators.

Wolverines cause a myriad of matchup problems

It’s really no surprise that the Michigan Wolverines are the last Big Ten team standing after Sunday’s 79-59 dispatching of Florida in the South Regional Final.  This has been a team that has seen numerous players thrive at different points of the season and now with possibly two games left, the match up problems they cause are numerous. Destiny could have been in the Michigan...

Michigan’s Trey Burke found Glenn Robinson III for a massive alley-oop

Trey Burke's insane alley-oop pass to Glenn Robinson III served as the exclamation point in Michigan's Elite Eight win over the Florida Gators.

Sunday’s Elite Eight Predictions

Last night’s Elite Eight games were pretty amazing. Syracuse/Marquette was a classic Big East, physical brawl that proved Cuse was the real deal. The Ohio State/Wichita State was one for the ages. I didn’t think the Shockers could pull off the upset, but they proved that they were the better team, at least for last night. However, when the Elite Eight schedule was released, I...
