Found November 15, 2012 on Inside the Hall:
Following their 87-61 defeat of  North Dakota State on Monday, the No. 1 Hoosiers will be back in action against Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. Thursday night at Assembly Hall. The game is part of the Progressive Legends Classic. The Bearkats are 1-1 this season, splitting games with Arkansas (L 68-73) and Hardin-Simmons (W 82-31). The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network and, as always, it will be broadcast on the IU Radio Network. While the play hasn’t always been pretty, the top-ranked Hoosiers have cruised through their first two regular season games. On paper, Sam Houston State is comparable to both of Indiana’s first two opponents, though the Bearkats do pose a threatening inside-out duo in Darius Gatson and Michael Holyfield. Gatson, a 5-foot-11 senior guard, is averaging a team-high 14.5 points per game through the first two, including a 20-point performance against Arkansas. He averaged 6.7 points and 4.5 assists for the Bearkats a season ago. “Darius Gatson really po...

Aggies return to Kyle Field to face Sam Houston

If Texas A&M needs a reason to illustrate why it can't take Sam Houston State lightly, the Aggies only need to look back to earlier this season. The scrappy Bearkats, last year's Championship Subdivision runner-up, led Baylor 20-10 at halftime before the Bears rallied for a 48-23 win. ''They're not going to be awestruck or anything when they come in here...

Sam Houston State routed by No. 1 Indiana

Sam Houston State challenged Arkansas in its season opener before losing a close one and had hoped to duplicate that effort against another big school on Thursday night. The Bearkats had no such luck against No. Indiana as Christian Watford scored 23 points to help the Hoosiers roll to a 99-45 victory in the Progressive Legends Classic. Paul Baxter scored nine points and Marquel...

Sam Houston St.-Indiana Preview

Indiana is set to honor its 1953 NCAA championship team at halftime Thursday night against visiting Sam Houston State. While this season's top-ranked Hoosiers have title aspirations of their own, coach Tom Crean believes his program still has a ways to go before hitting its stride. After cruising to a 97-54 win over Bryant in Friday's season opener, Indiana (2-0) came out...

IU-Sam Houston State Quick Recap and Postgame Show

The Indiana Hoosiers looked every bit like the #1 team in America on Thursday night. No, the competition was not great. And no, Indiana was never really challenged from the moment the ball was tipped until the final second ticked off the clock. But the Hoosiers played with an energy, a focus, and an intensity level that we hadn’t yet seen through two games. And it just might have...

Tom Crean uses 5-second rule after dropping gum on floor

Indiana’s head coach Tom Crean isn’t imune to blunderings. Crean appeared on SportCenters Not Top 10 during Thursday night’s game against Sam Houston State. It appears that Crean is yelling and trying to put in a piece of gum at the same time. Looks like he can’t walk, yell and chew gum at the same time. The gum I dropped tonight was a fresh piece of Dentyne Ice. No 5 second...

Sam Houston St. 82, Hardin-Simmons 31

Will Bond scored 14 points to lead four Sam Houston State players in double figures as the Bearkats overwhelmed Hardin-Simmons 82-31 on Tuesday night. Marquel McKinney added 13 points and Jeremy McKay and James Thomas 12 points each for Sam Houston State (1-1). Eric Taylor scored 11 points for Hardin-Simmons, a Division III school in Abilene, Texas, that classified the game as...

Video: Indiana U coach Tom Crean eats gum that dropped on the floor

Tweet Indiana University head men’s basketball coach Tom Crean must be fond of the five second rule, because he had no problem eating a piece of gum that he dropped on the court Thursday: That’s just gross. The Hoosiers easily defeated Sam Houston State 99-45, with one low-light courtesy of their head coach. -ALR

The Minute After: Sam Houston State

Thoughts on a 99-45 win over the Bearkats: I. Indiana breezed through their first two regular season contests, but tonight was just another level. Unlike the first two wins that started a little slow, Indiana was all gas, no brakes from the start here and this thing reached blowout territory before the halftime buzzer even sounded. It was, to quote the great offensive cliché, a...

Aggies move on after big win over Alabama

Texas A&M is relishing its spot as the new 'it' team in college football following its 29-24 upset victory over then-No. 1 ranked Alabama last Saturday. But the Aggies know how quickly things can change, which is why their focus now is on this weekend's game against Sam Houston State. "That part's already over with," Texas A&M head coach Kevin...
