The Wisconsin men’s basketball program is on the hunt for another big man to round out its 2024-25 roster and has just made the shortlist for a transfer portal target who could fill that void.

Jeff Borzello of ESPN reported that the Badgers have made the top four for former Georgia center Frank Anselem-Ibe. NC State, Georgia Tech, and Louisville are also in the mix, and a decision is expected sometime on Tuesday.

Standing at 6 foot 10 inches and 215 pounds, Anselem appeared in 29 of the Bulldogs’ 37 games this past season, starting three of them. In nine minutes per game, the Nigerian native averaged 2.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks a night while shooting 62.8% from the field.

Anselem began his career at Syracuse, spending two seasons under Jim Boeheim before entering the portal and winding up at Georgia. He will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next stop.

Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Pursuing Georgia Transfer

Not long after the end of the Wisconsin basketball team’s season, the Badgers roster saw a fair amount of turnover. Chucky Hepburn, AJ Storr, Connor Essegian, Gus Yalden, and three walk-ons entered the transfer portal.

Fortunately, head coach Greg Gard and his staff found a way to regroup and bounce back, adding three impact transfers of their own: Camren Hunter, Xavier Amos, and John Tonje.

Now, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team is looking for an athletic rim-running big man who can provide depth behind Steven Crowl and Nolan Winter. Ideally, that player would be someone who could slot into the back end of Gard’s rotation and provide some rim protection, energy, and toughness when called upon.

Frank Anselem would give the Badgers exactly what they’re after if they can sell him on a limited frontcourt role for next season. It’s clear that Chris Hodges isn’t someone this staff can count on for spot minutes at this point — so if you can improve this roster on the margins, it’s a win.

Synergy data shows that Anselem takes 91% of his shots at the rim, and he averages 1.26 points per shot, placing him in the 94th percentile. In short, Anselem is a one-trick pony, and that’s all they’d need him to be next season.

Wisconsin basketball is also involved with McCook Community College (JUCO) transfer center Noah Boyed and was named a finalist alongside Oregon and LSU, so the last scholarship spot should be filled soon enough.
