Flenard Whitfield's double-double led Western Michigan to an 80-58 victory over Hope College in the Broncos' home opener Wednesday night.
Whitfield scored 22 points, giving him 1,010 for his career, and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Broncos (1-6).

Kool Named Full-Time Assistant Coach for Broncos
Western Michigan head men's basketball coach Steve Hawkins announced today that David Kool, the WMU program's all-time leading scorer and 2009-10 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Player of the Year, has been promoted to full-time assistant coach for the Broncos.

Broncos Win on Whitfield's Layup with :00.6 on the Clock
WMU's Flenard Whitfield dropped in a layup with 0:00.6 off Demetrius Ward's second assist of the night to give Western Michigan a 61-59 win at Georgia State on at Saturday night. It is the second time in as many games that the Broncos have captured a win in a one-possession contest.

MAC Player of Year David Kool sparks comeback as Western Michigan earns 69-60 tourney win over CMU
Kool scored 24 of his 26 points in the second half, helping the Broncos overcome Central Michigan's 47-33 lead. Center Donald Lawson, forward Flenard Whitfield and guard David Brown helped key the comeback.

Easy Illini Win Over Western Michigan Inspiring, Not Surprising

It isn’t like anyone expected the Illini to lose.
Still, with their 88-53 win over Western Michigan a lot of positives can be taken.
It took forever for the Illini to get going (the teams combined to shoot 1-for-17 over the first 5:30 of the game), but once they got going, Illinois cruised to the easy win over their over-matched MAC opponent.

Kool, Drews Named Academic All-MAC
The Mid-American Conference announced today that Western Michigan junior guard David Kool and senior forward Derek Drews have been named to the five-player Academic All-MAC squad. WMU has now claimed 10 of the 21 spots on the Academic All-MAC Team over the last four seasons.
