Sensational Caitlin Clark propels Iowa to Final Four with win over LSU

The second round goes to the Hawkeyes.

Iowa avenged last year's national title game loss to LSU with a 94-87 win in the Elite Eight on Monday night. The Hawkeyes advance to their second consecutive Final Four and third in program history.

As was to be expected, guard Caitlin Clark led the way, scoring 41 points in a sensational performance. She tied the record for most made threes in a tournament game (nine) and set multiple longer-spanning marks.

On her first three of the game, Caitlin broke the record for most makes in women's DI NCAA Tournament history. Later, she passed Taylor Robertson's record for most career threes and Temeka Johnson's record for tourney assists.

Clark made more threes than LSU had as a team (eight) and only attempted four fewer (20) than the Tigers (24).

LSU dominated the boards, outrebounding Iowa 55-37. Angel Reese was particularly effective with 20 rebounds.

But Clark, who is averaging 32.3 points during this year's tournament, wouldn't be denied. She recorded her third double-double of the tournament by also adding 12 assists, giving her an average of 10 per game through four 2024 tournament games.

With two more wins, she'll have that elusive national title and a near-ironclad case for best women's college basketball career.

It's the one thing missing in her career, but by vanquishing the team that prevented her from hoisting the championship trophy last year, Clark made a massive statement.

Next up on her collision course to that tile: the winner of USC-Connecticut in the Final Four.
