Miles and his tigers look to have another successful season going into 2012. In 2011 the tigers finished the season with a 13-1 record, going 8-0 in the SEC.  The tigers also made an appearance in the 2011 BCS National Conference Game, but suffered a loss to Alabama 21-0.

On offense, the questions surround quarterback Zach Mettenberger. Mettenberger brings more to the table than any of last year’s QBs. He has a cannon of an arm and could bring another dimension to the Tigers’ offense. He will hope that the wide receivers will make big plays for him. Mettenberger has enough weapons to take the load off of him at running back. Also, the line is experienced, having the second most total returning starts in the SEC.

Statistically, the Tigers had the second best defense in the nation behind Alabama. The losses of Morris Claiborne and Mathieu is a big hit, but the secondary should be helped by a feisty defensive line led by Barkevious Mingo.

Personnel:

LSU returns 14 starters, 7 on offense, 5 on defense, and 2 on special teams.

Defense:

Key defensive returnees include safety Eric Reid, defensive end Sam Montgomery, defensive end Barkevious Mingo, Linebacker Kevin Minter, cornerback Therald Simon, and defensive tackle Bennie Logan who all combined for 331 tackles, 19 sacks, and 4 interceptions.

Offense:

Key offensive returnees include running backs Michael Ford, Spencer Ware, Alfred Blue, Kenny Hilliard, and wide receiver Odell Beckham who combined for 2,338 rushing yards, 30 touchdowns, and 41 receiving yards.

Top recruits:

On defense the tigers add outside linebacker Kwon Alexander, cornerback Derrick Raymond, defensive end Danielle Hunter, outside linebacker Corey Thompson.

Offensively , LSU makes contributions to their offensive line with guard Vadal Alexander.

2012 Schedule:

North Texas Mean Green

Washing Huskies

Idaho Vandals

At Auburn Tigers

Towson Tigers

At Florida Gators

South Carolina Gamecocks

At Texas A&M Aggies

Bye

Alabama Crimson Tide

Mississippi State Bulldogs

2012 Prediction:
