Pros

  • Jam
Shows the ability to re-route and throw of timing when he opts to use his physicality
  • Tackling
Not afraid to mix it up and drop his weight into tackles. Plays with fundamentals and is a plus one in run defense
  • Length
Extended limbs and good height allow him to cover tons of grass when used in Zone Coverage

Cons

  • Press Technique
Needs to be more efficient in his hand usage and footwork when aligned in press-man
  • Recovery Speed
Lacks the high-end traits to effectively recover when he loses off the line
  • Transitions
Labors when tasked with flipping his hips or turning out of his crossover run. Doesn’t have a smooth pedal either

Eval:

Newton is a longer and more physical corner who is best suited for zone-heavy schemes. He lacks the athleticism to be a dominant island corner, but if he can keep things in front of him and safety help behind him, he will be useful in the appropriate setting.

Floor Comp: Artie Burns

Long corner best suited to play in heavy zone schemes.

Ceiling Comp: Smaller Brandon Browner

Physical corner who opts for physicality over athleticism.
