Lombardi on Football:

If this is true that the Packers offered a sum of money to Favre to stay retired, this is further indication and evidence that the void of an owner in Green Bay is really hurting the Packers.
Here is the story.
I know Mark Murphy is new to the job. He walked into a hornet's nest. The basic ground work done to create this terrible mess originated with the football people. And what was he doing going to Mississippi other than to offer something? He really has no relationship of substance with Favre or Bus Cook. It was bizarre when I heard he was going, and seems even more bizarre now.
With a clear void of leadership in Green Bay -- on all fronts -- it is a good thing the commissioner has gotten involved.
Let me see if I can understand this. A guy has one of the best years of his career, he retires, he wants to come back, and the team wants to pay him to stay retired. I keep asking myself -- would this have happened in New England? Denver? San Francisco with Bill Walsh? Seattle?
Or if Ron Wolf and Andrew Brandt were still in Green Bay?

That supposed $25,000,000 marketing deal (...er bribe) offered by the Green Bay Packers? It wasn't enough to keep Brett Favre out of the NFL and the Packers camp - and I'm happy that Favre didn't bend over to make Aaron Rodgers and the Packers management team happy.

Brett Favre's Packers career appears exactly as it has over the last several months, at best in limbo, at worst over.
