I always find what Walter Football has to say about the Eagles draft interesting. He usually throws some curve balls from what you’re used to seeing at other mock drafts. Let’s see who he has the Eagles taking with their first 5 picks:

21 - Robert Ayers - (DE) - Tennessee
28 - Alex Mack - (C) - California
53 - Duke Robinson - (OG) - Oklahoma
85 - Javon Ringer - (RB) - Michigan State
117 - Chase Coffman - (TE) - Missouri

It looks like he has a pretty good grasp on the Eagles needs: offensive line, running back, and tight end. His curveball: the Eagles taking Robert Ayers with the 21st pick. Here’s my reaction to his picks.

I go into a very in-depth look at his picks so read the FULL STORY for my reaction.

  • it dont make sense yes those are our needs but it isnt the right order on how its expected to be for us get michael johnson at DE if available i didnt know DE was our biggest need i dnt really follow walters football info as forthright
    • i dont like this mock draft at all, we need to adress other things than DE and C this is just retarded

I normally lean on Walterfootball when it comes to the draft as well, but I think he missed the pulse just a bit on the Eagles this year. For the record pipoto77, he listed Ayers for us because we have enough pass rushing specialists, like Johnson, and he thinks we need a two way DE opposite Cole. I happen to think that DLine is NOT a position of need for us, as we have a very deep rotation of 8 players that fit our system great and do what JJ wants them to do. (Cole, Parker, Abiamiri, Clemons, Bunkley, Patterson, Laws, Howard). That's more depth than you will see at any other NFL team.

In the first, I think we are going to take whichever offensive lineman slips down to us at 21, whether it is Oher, Duke Robinson, William Beatty, or Andre Smith (remember when he was the Smith projected in the top 5?). The second pick at 28 might just surprise us and get an RB or a WR, between Moreno, Wells, Nicks, Britt, and of course Maclin

I think we might reach in the 2nd to find a MIKE backer for Akeem Jordan. Gaither is obviously not the solution anymore and Jordan played well last year, especially in pass coverage, but we only needed him in coverage because we were covering one of Dawkins weak points. Now that we have Sean Jones, Rashad Baker, and Demps (who Im not high on), they all have great cover and ball skills, our OLB's will get back to rushing the QB again...that might even make Gaither get back on the field on something other than special teams!

Either way, with all of those picks, I can't wait!

      Mike backer?

        Placard_complete_small
        a. - "Mike" = refers to a middle line backer /
        b. - "Sam" = would be strong side /
c.- "Will" = is weak side line backer.
        • gbadair
Yeah, but Akeem Jordan is a Will backer, Bradley is the mike.
  • this draft would make me SSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO mad but u know wat makes me even madder? the fact that the eagles would do something like this. takeing a "value pick" at 21 by drafting a DE that slipped. the taking 2 o lineman who are once again "value picks." javon ringer insg even good. he's slow and small. coffman may be a steal but i see us getting a guy like ingram or cook in the 2nd
  • i dont know how anyone on here can disagree with what they say the eagles will do on draft day. thats exactly what Reid will do. 10 years of drafts andthe same result every year. D-line and O-line is a premium in the reid banner world
  • just cause everyone on here wants moreno or wells or pettigew doesnt mean we'll get them. wake up eagles fans
    • thats exactly wats making me mad. there's a lot of critics for the guys u named but the fact is getting wells, moreno, or pettigrew would be great for the team assuming they play. the eagles wont draft one of them though and i am willing to guarentee that
  • wild_eagle
yes i actually like it, javon ringer... i love watching him play, hes an under the radar type of guy. and stacking up on a good center and pure gaurd sounds good, then setting the LE position for year to come with Ayers was brilliant.. honestly my favorite draft scenerio so far.
  • raveneagle
generally cheaper to draft Ol than skill position players thats why eagles like OL early. Money management. Its a business. And eagles like a large bottom line.
  • THEBOSS36
this is the shittiest mock draft yet again it is the Eagles we are talking about
  • matt17
who ever wrote this mock draft is dumb we dont need a d linemen in the first round we had the seacnd ranked D we need a RB and a OL
