Uh oh. Chris Beanie Wells had a phenomenal start to the 2008 NCAA Football season for Ohio State? and then everything fell apart. He had 13 carries for 111 yards before injuring his foot and being taken out of the game. X-Rays were negative but this is very bad for Ohio State Football and for Beanie's Heisman hopes. A foot injury can be quite complicated and is particularly tough for guys relying on speed and cutting.

It's not like they don't have another running back to replace him. They are loaded just like any of the top ten teams. Someone else will step up and do the job. They may not be as good, but I don't think it will hurt them that bad. Just too bad it happened before the USC game.
    • Freeagentjb
it does not matter. w/ him or w/o him they couldn't win. now the trojan victory will be tainted.
      • The Big 10 sucks this year. very pathetic.

Hard to replace a running back that ran for 1600+ yards, but if they can get decent production out of another one, they will be good to go.

We'll know in the next few days the exact status of Beanie.

FIVERINGS is right though. OSU is loaded, and has experienced running backs, but Beanie is a monster.
  • Flabuckeye
X-rays are negative.........and he was back on the sideline smiling........

He played all of last yr with a fractured wrist and a high ankle sprain that would not go away...............and he ran for over 1600 yards.

He is a man with the ball..................ask Pete Carrol if he is conserend about Beanie?? Honestly...........Coach Carrol would tell you the same.

    • milehighsalute
Like no coach has ever told a player to stand there and make it look like they are not hurt? If Ohio State has everyone worried that Beanie is going to be in, they can figure out what they are going to do next.
      • LadyFanofOSU
        Placard_complete_small
Why would the coach want it to look like he is less hurt than he is? If anything, wouldn't he want him to look MORE hurt than he is, especially if it makes it look like he won't be playing in the big game... and no longer be a factor?

Bad title. Sore loser? Or should I say soon to be sore loser? He will definitely be back and be a force. I cant stand OSU or there fans, but this is the truth.
    • A couple responses:
      1. Beanie's ankle is sore and he had to be removed from the game.
      2. ankle injuries are a big deal.
      3. The OSU discussion on http://www.ingamenow.com is nauseating. i HATE OSU
      • milehighsalute
Agreed - There is only so many times that you can come back and play quickly from a bad ankle sprain (if that is all this is)
    • LadyFanofOSU
      Placard_complete_small
      Don't hate you.
  • Fedorisking
OSU needs every single possible thing that could go right to go right for them to have a chance in this game, Even with a LITTLE wear and tear their chance of a win goes from very slim to NONE.
  • Fedorisking
Furthermore it looks like the only chance that the Big 10 had at fielding a decent team this year is out the window.

Little early to be making predictions like that, isn't it? Michigan sure stunk it up today, but I didn't see too many things that say OSU and Penn State aren't going to have strong teams. Overall, I think the Big Ten had a good day today.

I wasn't able to catch the Penn State game, but the score indicates that offense will be potent this year

Yeah... here's the thing... Beanie Wells isn't the entire Ohio State offense, AND we really don't know the severity of his injury.

He could be back next week, or he might be out for a number of games, but that aside...

OSU has other running backs on the team, seniors with experience, and youngsters with talent who were hoping to break out after Beanie. As much of an asset as Beanie is to Ohio State, the season is far from over.

It's just too early to be making those types of claims.
  • gobluejosh
Wisconsin also had a solid game and it wouldnt surprise me at all to see Illinois come back for a win vs. Mizzou. I know everyone is strangely excited to write the Big Ten off this year with Michigan going through a transition, but the conference is still solid.

I'd like to see IL win since I don't really like crybaby Daniel. Flipping between that one and the Alabama/Clemson game. Was watching my team, but it's in a weather delay and they are up by 50 at halftime........I think they have it in hand.
  • echinsuocha1
He will need more than tape to fix this, I would tend to consider this a NAGGING injury

    GO BLUE!
    DIE OSU!
    • Go Blue? Oh, yeah you lost to another stiff team. Your season is over. Thanks for coming out again and embarrassing the Big Ten.
  • OSU won't be playing for the BCS championship for a 3rd year in a row!
    • BuckNut94
i wouldnt be so quick to count them out.

        Ditto.
        • Flabuckeye
Lady as you stated earlier................We have 3 other capable running backs that can perform , heck they would be starting for other schools if they were there. I mean our O-line is solid...........they do play a role in Beanies success.

My true consern is Todd Boechman. He had a deer in headlights look ( against YSU ) , and whenever he got into trouble he chucked it deep off his back foot..................I think Todd is looking over his shoulder at Pryor and Bauserman. I mean seriously........Todd has been a backup until last yr, and he got the nod due to a transfer and the pecking order. Todd will be on a very short leash come Sept. 13th..............
      • FIVERINGS
        Placard_complete_small
Put Pryor in at running back.

THE OHIO STATE IS LOADED, THIS POST IS LAME! NO-ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT WELL'S INJURY AT THIS POINT....! O - H....
    • Flabuckeye
And they aren't gonna let anyone know either unless they have to. Beanie had an MRI done today, ..........Tressel has a presser tomorrow at noon ( which is his normal weekly thing ). I think everyone is on a need to know basis, he definately won't see action against Ohio ( Bobcats) . But they are not saying anything, which is smart.

Even USC fans should want Beanie in the game. You want your team to play the best that the other team has to offer. That way, there are no cop-outs on either side when one team loses. No excuses. That's the way it should be.

      Placard_complete_small
Agreed, no excuses! Win or lose, no excuses! How convenient has this last month been? Sanchez then Beanie, is there something going on behind the scenes here? I wouldnt put it past Pete or Jim, as this game is HUGE..!

        Placard_complete_small
Huge game indeed. Coaches playing mind games? Quite possible. All of the hype and all. Might as welll throw in some mysterious injuries and other BS. Anything to make the other team think.
