TEAMS: USC Trojans

USC started the season with national title expectations but a major hiccup prevented them from reaching their true potential. But after thrashing Penn State in the Rose Bowl does USC have a case for the national championship? The answer is no.

Your exactly right!!! USC always loses easy games like stanford and oregon state. But then they expect to go to the national championship when they beat up on the pac-10. They lose early in the season, and don't play anyone worth crap the rest of the season, so they never move ahead in the rankings

Most big time schools play a maximum of one big out of conference game each year. USC played Ohio State this year and won 35-3.

you are a retard. cause lsu is good, right? the pac 10 went 5-0 in their bowl games. I am currently watching that fake alabama team (who punked lsu) get out everythinged by a mountain west team. the sec is over-rated. florida is good, ole miss is respectable, the rest is crap.

What was the Pac-10's record against the Mountain West this season? Because if I remember correctly, they got smoked.

Aside from Oregon State every other Pac-10 team that lost to the Mountain West were bad teams and under .500. It was: UW, Stanford, UCLA, and Az. State. Not to mention Arizona the Pac-10's #5 team beat BYU the Mountain West's #2 31-21 in their bowl game. The Pac-10 as a whole is not very good right now, but i don't think that should take anything away from how good of a team USC is. That would be a bada$$ gme USC vs. Oklahoma but because there are some idiots running college football and the BCS we will never see it.

Not just no, but hell no. Utah has more to lay claim to than USC

of course usc has a claim and so does utah and so does florida/oklahoma winner and so will texas if they beat ohio state. That's why we need a playoff. c'mon man

They may have a case for it, but it doesn't matter. The team that wins in Miami will have the trophy.

The winner of Championship Game will be the BCS Champs. USC or Utah (I know it's a long shot) can be voted AP Champs.

Another split national championship is very possible, but I think the AP will vote the BCS champion as their champion, too. Utah may have a claim, but who have they played besides Alabama?

Utah finished undefeated but like you said (BowlBound) besides the Whooping they gave Alabama who did the Utes really play and their strength of schedule wasn't or isn't strong like Hmm,let's say a Oklahoma or USC or even Florida,Teams like the Utes need to schedule a tough non conference schedule against a Alabama or USC to get more exposure during the season, instead of a bowl then the claim of being number 1 would have legitimacy behind it..

I heard Carols comments and he may be right in the fact that USC could beat anyone right now; however, until he can get his team motivated in September and October it doesn't matter how well they play in January. So my answer is no they do not have a right to the National championship.
The minute you say they do you have to consider Utah and quite possibly Texas depending what happens next week. The point is where does it end. I think that with each passing year it is much more clear that we need to have some kind of a playoff system. I am not sure exactly what type but some sort of tournament none the less.

This is the year the auto bid conference rule has to go. Its a nice tradition but nothing more. I mean USC simply has dominated everyone they faced the last 3 years in the Rose Bowl. I mean Virginai Tech and Cincy in the Orange Bowl what gives.
  • steveo0169
I definitely agree with the automatic bids. I don't like the fact that the winner of so and so's conference plays in this bowl against the winner of this conferences every year. It's a nice tradition and all, but I think they should match the teams up more evenly or something depending upon what the records and rankings are, because USC spanking around the Big Ten year after year is starting to get old, and USC playing in the Rose Bowl every year is also starting to get old.
  • rouennara
Thats what it seems like. In college so many conferences are up and coming and the power has really shifted.
  • can you say playoffs that is the only way that we are going to find out who is the true champion on a yearlybasis
