In my last article, I addressed the possibility of the Eagles drafting Maryland’s Darrius Heyward-Bey. I think the possibility of that happening is very slim. The Eagles could have their eyes set on Virginia OT Eugene Monroe, who is a lock to go in the top 10. However, according to the draft value chart, the Eagles could trade both first-round picks and a fifth-round pick to trade into the top 10 if they find a willing trade partner (Cincinnati at 6 and San Fransisco at 10 are possible trading partners). If the Eagles can make the move, I think they should do it. All the top tackles will be long gone by the time the Eagles are on the clock at 21 and they desperately need to find Tra Thomas’s replacement.

If the Eagles are forced to stay put, Darrius Heyward-Bey may go to the Bucs, Jets, or Bears, so it’s time to look at other some other options the Eagles have to boost the offense. Brandon Pettigrew would be ideal, but let’s go a bit deeper in the draft. Who could the Eagles target in rounds 2 and 3? I already posted an article praising the skills of Texas A&M runningback Mike Goodson, who reminds me very much of Brian Westbrook with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.

Another guy you should get familiar with is North Carolina WR Hakeem Nicks. Nicks is 6′1″ 212 lbs. He’s not as explosive as Heyward-Bey, so he’s not really a vertical threat, but he reminds me a bit of Calvin Johnson with his long arms, leaping ability, and great route running. He’s just a tremendous option for the Eagles in the 2nd round and possibly the 3rd.

  • I would Love Hakeem Nicks on the Eagles Or Kenny Britt or Heyward Bey either or i just wish we knew what they were going to do ahead of time but we got to wait a long Month i mean a long month LOL an im not downing the other talents out there and anything can happen in a month but If we trade to get to the top Ten it will obviously be for an OT than after that will we keep focusing on Offensive line or try to grab something else RB i like your choice and i like Shonn Greene (sorry for the incorrect Spelling) TE Chase Coffman or Jared Cook but we seriously do need those 3 before we grab a WR if we grab a WR Early i will assume we are going to be doing some Good Moves an picks its funny because the eagles usually pick up a steal by the 3rd-6th rounds sometimes even 2 draft steals...

I would Heyward Bey or Nicks and Micheal Oher/Herman Johnson with the 28 and I will keep saying this till the draft SHONN GREENE IN THE SECOND ROUND
    • why is everyone so high on shonn green. i think he is a bust waiting to happen

I dont think I think he everything a Rb needs but I must admit Hands may be the issue

As much as I would love one of those top tackles, i would hate to have to trade both first rounders to move up. I think it would be ideal to trade one of them and say a 4th to move up in the top 20. having those two firsts is great for us and we should take advantage

I think they need a RB who will make a difference, not a 4th round guy who "may" be good someday... I like johnny knox from abiline christian, the guy is a real receiver and is really fast....

  • How tall is Johnny Knox Just Asking... I know height isnt always the answer but it helps i dont know much about this guy thats why i ask thats all, I dont want the Eagles to let go of both round picks either if you want to move up trade your 1st and an early 3rd or 4th to at least get to 10-15 an there can be a quality OT an keep 28 for the RB of our Choice or TE Shonn Greene i would love to have on our team as well as many others but we got choices so we have enough ammunition to move up but for whooooo

ive been reading up a lot on hakiem nicks and i was under the impression he would be a late 1 or early 2nd round pick. i could be wrong but i am all for getting him we have the power to move up early in the 2nd and i would love to take him. as for trading both first rounder to move up to the top ten i think that would be a hue mistake. i think we need a tackle but not as bad as we need RB TE or WR we have enough good lineman in here and shawn andrews and hermmans were both tackles in college and i think could make the switch this year. i dont think any one of the top tackles is worth loosing pettigrew and knowshawn, wells, or any of the other RBs were looking at.

WR isnt a huge issue when your quarterback throws for 23 tds 10 ints and 3916 yds. he is at his prime meanwhile westbrooks age looks to b catching up with him runningback needs to be adressed first WR third or fourth
  • Yup unless we get a Steal at a WR but RB is primary number one and so is TE, Oline though we could pick up a Solid Player an groom him could come out of the 2nd and 3rd an probably outshine Any 1st Rounders it seems like the Eagles are already setting that one up for us by rotating we do got other T on the Roster that can be pushed to the L side the Right Side is fine its the Left side that needs work on....

I dont want to trade our 2 rounds now if we trade our 21st an another pick later on than we can move up not trade both
  • we dont need to draft an o lineman and nicks will god late 1st early 2nd so we better get him at 28

Nicks is the 6th best receiver in the draft. There's no way more than 3 WRs go in the first round. Remember last year? When were DeSean Jackson and Devin Thomas drafted? Exactly!
      • no they went late b/c every single wr had big question marks. deseans size, hardy's speed, thomas was a 1 year wonder. this year its different. there could easily be 4-5 wr's in the 1st. either way he doesnt fall to us in the 2nd round. we would have to trade up. plus if boldin was in the draft again wouldnt u draft him 1st over all if u know wat he would be? so y not get the next boldin at 28? i know this may be crazy but im good at calling when a player will be good. nicks will be great

Coops....you're saying hes at his prime so we should keep giving him mediocre talent at the reciever position to throw to? Our recievers are good enough to get to the big game. They arent good enough to win it. Look at Larry Fitz and the way he dominated the championship game (and the super bowl) ...replace that man with kevin curtis or jason avant and do you think the cards are in the super bowl even if there QB had 23 tds 10 ints and 3916 yards passing? Absolutely not.
  • BirdbrainsNJ
Super bowl? He made one big play and was shut down the rest of the night.

exactly. and that play happened to take them from losing in the 4th quarter to winning with 2 minutes left....its an explosive play...no reciever on the birds makes that one play...thats what makes a great reciever...he can be shut down for 3 quarters and then bam, all of sudden take one to the house. also, the point ur questioning wasnt even the point of my post....point is, do you think the cards make the super bowl without 2 dominating recievers last year? No. they dont. regardless of what the stats of their QB would be without them.

Brian Robiskie and Ramses Barden are two wideouts you should not sleep on

I want the Eagles to be able to pick up Britt or Nicks, but I just dont know if they will have the opportunity unless they some how trade for a TE or OT. The first three needs of the team is OT, TE, RB probably in that order. .. Then WR, meaning the Eagles would have to hope for Nicks or Britt to fall that far, which I can only wish wil happen.
