Steve Kragthorpe: Where have you been soldier?
Victor Anderson: Training, sir.
Rest of Louisville players: Training, sir.
Kragthorpe: What kind of training?
Anderson: Army training, sir.
Rest of Louisville players: Army training, sir.

Kragthorpe gave his players a Stripes moment of their own -- and no, that doesn't mean Kragthorpe was peering at the naked, nubile bodies of his players in the shower a la John Larroquette. The Louisville coach took his players to Fort Knox on what they thought was a day off from the rigors of practice.

“One minute we're in a nice auditorium getting a motivational speech and watching a nice film,” senior Joe Tronzo told the Louisville Courier-Journal. “The next somebody is screaming, ‘Platoon 1, on your feet,' and then you're on the bus and running for the next five hours.”

The players were put though an abbreviated basic training, complete with an obstacle course and drills. To make Kragthorpe feel more at home, his Cardinals even went so far as to take the chair their coach was sitting on and lit a fire beneath it.

Through two seasons, Kragthorpe is 11-13 and hasn't made a bowl appearance and that's despite having quarterbacks Brian Brohm and Hunter Cantwell, both of whom were drafted. But hey, desperate times lead desperate men to desperate moves, hence the collective kick in the ass for his entire roster.

Things aren't likely to get better for the Cardinals this season, even with the reigning Big East Rookie of the Year in Anderson, who ran for 1,047 yards and eight TDs in '08. SI.com and Phil Steele are both picking L'ville to finish seventh in the conference race, which could cost Kragthorpe his job, no matter what AD Tom Jurich told Rivals.com.

But hey, if this is the beginning of the end for Kragthorpe, at least his players got a field trip out of the deal.
