As the agent for Michigan tackle Jake Long continues to negotiate with the Miami Dolphins regarding the possibility of working out a contract before the time comes for the Dolphins to make their pick, there's a report that Jake isn't all that juiced about playing for the Fins. John Czarnecki of FOXSports.com reports that "[t]he word on the street" is that Long doesn't want to play in Miami. But talks are continuing between the team and Long's agent because of the "special honor" of being the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. (Yeah, those Steve Emtman rookie cards are going for about 100 . . . yen.) Czarnecki says that, if/when the talks with Jake Long break down, the Fins won't move on to defensive end Chris Long. The Virginia product, the son of Hall of Famer Howie Long, has been presumed for several months to have the inside track because he's the safest pick on the board. The Fins apparently then would look after Jake Long t...

  • I'd give a kidney for him to come to Baltimore but I know we have as much chance of signing him as me becoming the Pope.

  • I dont know why a young guy like Jake wouldnt want to go to Miami... Hot girls, young players around him, some vets, and the turning of a new leaf with Parcells coming in... It could be worse, he could be going to the Raiders like Darren McFadden will be doing... but DMC aint mad.. Hes just glad to be in the league.

  • My guess is that this isn't true and he is just using this so the Dolphins offer him more money. I don't know why he wouldn't take it. Even if he gets more money some place else like, they have a state income tax and Long would end up getting around the same money that the Dolphins offered or maybe even less.

Jake Long puts GM on Mac Blast

Jake Long's dad spent 30 years working for General Motors, but the first thing Jake is going to buy with his new contract is a Ford truck. That's cold. With $30 million in the bank, he should at least buy a GMC and let it sit in the driveway. Just to appease the old man. When I suggested that to Jake last night, he said that he would think about it, but that in the meantime...

Finally the Draft is here

What's up, Yardbarkers? Just wanted to check in with the Yard on the night before the Draft. One down and two to go before Al Davis makes his choice

One of the many possible scenarios for the Raiders' fourth overall selection in this weekends draft is officially off of the board. That comes to one year less and $3.25 million less than last year's number one pick, JaMarcus...

My Jets Wish List: Vernon Gholston to Not Be Irrelevent

I think it's pretty safe to assume that expectations for the #6 pick in an NFL draft are not 13 total tackles but that's exactly what Vernon Gholston gave the New York Jets last season. In essence Gholston was a complete non factor. He recorded zero sacks and the majority of his 13 tackles came on special teams. He was even inactive for multiple games including a 3 game stretch...

Long Highlights All-ACC Defense

The only reason Virginia junior Chris Long doesn't have much of a chance to win the Heisman Trophy this season is that he plays defense exclusively. He's that good.

So what do you want, Raider Nation: Raider X

Raider X has reappeared to give his take on the upcoming draft. He looks at what the Raider Nation wants. Do we want the home run hitter in Darren McFadden, or do we want to shore up the defense by adding a defensive lineman like Chris Long or Vernon Gholston? Or do we want to go for an offensive lineman to protect JaMarcus Russell? Which way will the Oakland Raiders go?
