Our 2008 San Francisco 49er Starting Quarterback, J.T. O'Sullivan, yes that's right people you read this right I did type "starting qb". J.T. took the long way to get to the San Francisco Bay Area to end up trying to right a ship that, like the Titanic, hit a snag and pretty much went down. What I find really very odd is that J.T. was born in Burbank, CA, went to college at California at Davis and has been through 6 teams before finally landing with the coach and system he knows well and is comfortable in right in the middle area of the state of California. Through training camp and 3 preseason games he has consistently proved that he deserves to be the starter with our $50 million dollar baby as back up, how many of us wish we could hold a clipboard for that much money. Yes, I'm sure Nolan and the rest of the 49er organization knows they fucked up and fucked up badly but taking Smith as the #1 pick when it was clear to more then a few football gurus and fans alike that this was never going to work out and that Alex Smith wasn't the right fit for the San Francisco 49ers. Now I'm not by any means trying to say that J.T. will take us to the promise land or even that we'll sniff the play-offs but as of right now he seems to me at least to have enough command of the playbook to at least not look like a complete and utter moron out there. I'm curious to see him with the whole starting team around him and see where it takes us. To be honest I was not looking forward to the start of our season because I didn't want to see Smith as our QB again looking like a deer caught in headlights, so J.T. at least gives me a couple more weeks of hope before the light is very bright or dims and fades again and we end up with the #1 pick in the draft next year. We all know that Coach Nolan and Coach Martz are hoping that J.T. can help them out of a very big hole that Mike Nolan had dug for all the staff and the weight of the 49er organization is going to be put on a 6'2" 229 lbs. 28 year old quarterback who's been bounced around from the Saints to the Packers to the Vikings to the Patriots to the Panthers to now come back where his life started in sunny California.....Good luck J.T. you're going to need it!!! Your long nightmare is over Niners fans?? or is it?

That's right, write down the date and time, the 49ers team management have finally made a smart move, and if I'm recalling correctly, ONLY smart move since Dr York took control of the once storied franchise by the bay. They've relieved Alex Smith, a top candidate for worst draft pick of all time, from his starting duties at QB. That's the end of the good move...

Alex Smith Is Ready to Move On

San Francisco 49ers former No. 1 draft pick, quarterback Alex Smith is determined to put the horrendous 2007 season behind him and prove all his critics wrong. “It was such a crazy situation last year,” Smith said. “Coach Nolan and I are both excited to be moving on from it.” ...

49er Fans Thinking What I'm Thinking?

You know sitting here, I'm wondering if our season is really going to be any different then the last 3, hell I can go back even further but I'm starting from 05 because of our first round pick, you know that QB with brains for days and no guts or heart. We hear or read daily about different players probably going to the inactive list but as a whole, does anyone really...

Fantasy Football Mock Draft - #9 Frank Gore (and Mike Martz)

Frank Gore should immediately call Mike Martz and thank him for benching the worst starting QB in the NFL (Alex Smith) for JT O'Sullivan. That is the lone reason that I am drafting the uber-talented Gore?. because with Alex Smith at the helm, his talent is wasted in a big, dangerous way.

49ers' Johnson making up for lost time

For front-line NFL players, the final exhibition game is typically as meaningful as a promise that the check's in the mail. Most of them barely work up a sweat – if that – before taking a seat on the sidelines. Of course there's an exception to every rule. Friday night at Monster Park, that exception was 49ers wide receiver Bryant Johnson. After missing...

Shawne Merriman To Play This Season Despite Decapitation

The Chargers have made it official that defensive end Shawne Merriman will play this season despite a decapitation he suffered in a preseason game last week. In the 2nd quarter against the 49ers, Merriman was beheaded on a hard chop block by on of the San Francisco runningbacks. The head rolled around the field, as players from both sides confused it for a fumble and tried to step...

Niners Trade Rattay (QB) to Bucs

Well, it appears Alex Smith is going to have to be "the guy" for the 49ers. Yesterday (Tuesday) SF traded former starting QB Tim Rattay to the Buccaneers for an undisclosed draft pick. Although Rattay has a few years of starting QB experience--and was actually halfway decent last year when he wasn...

O’Sullivan Finally Gets the Call to Start for Niners

Mike Nolan has been almost annoyingly objective when it has come to evaluating the starting quarterback position. He has tried to express fairness in determining which of three QBs ? Alex Smith, Shaun Hill or J.T. O'Sullivan ? will lead the offense in Week 1. Now, though, it seems Nolan could be coming to a conclusion of who is guy will be. O'Sullivan will get the start against the...

Who's Worse Off? Aaron Rodgers Or Alex Smith?

Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith were both taken in the 1st round of the 2005 NFL draft. For the last three years each man has traveled a very different journey, yet they find themselves in the exact same place…. Knee deep in sh-t.

Cardinals should take a cue from the Niners

Today in San Francisco, 49ers head coach Mike Nolan made the announcement that J.T. O'Sullivan would be the starting QB for the season opener against the Cardinals on September 7th. Translation…Alex Smith, the number one overall draft pick out of Utah in 2005, and the owner of a 6-year, $49 million c

Larry Allen Will Toughen San Francisco's Offense

Getting Larry Allen from the Dallas Cowboys adds more than his 325 pounds to the 49ers offensive line. He's got a mean streak, or at least he plays like he does. Now if Jonas Jennings and Jeremy Newberry could be healthy all season...QB Alex Smith would certainly enjoy that, and fans would too!

Tuesday FourCast: Week 7

Week 7 came and week 7 went. Some things returned to "normal," such as the Giants winning. Other things went even more haywire than before, such as the Cowboys self-imploding (or is that self-bloweding up, Emmitt?) even further. An eloquent sports writer would delve into such complicated matters. Unfortunately, you're stuck with me this week. On with the countdown...
