New Miami Era Starts Strong
Randy Shannon coached his first game. Kirby Freeman made his first start as the official No. 1 quarterback. And Miami opened its last season at the storied Orange Bowl.
Freshman Graig Cooper (22 carries for 116 yards) and sophomore Javarris James (14 carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns) presented a dominating 1-2 punch out of the backfield that's been missing the past few years. The pair each had electrifying long runs (although James' was called back).
