ESPN's SportsCenter is reporting that USC tailback Stafon Johnson was hospitalized after a lifting accident. A bar apparently fell on Johnson's throat while lifting. Little else is known at this time. ESPN's Shelley Smith said Johnson was coughing up blood and bleeding from the nose, adding that his situation is "very serious" and that possibly he would need surgery. Update: USC's official football blog says the bar slipped out of his right hand and fell at an angle onto his throat. He is now having surgery on his throat. USC says he had a spotter but it was an extremely unusual situation.Stafon Johnson Suffers Lifting Accident originally appeared on Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 18:48:00 EST . This is unfortunate. I hope he's ok.

aren't you a Cal fan?

Yes, but I don't wish serious injury on anybody. Actually, that's a lie. I'm wishing a potent stomach virus on my NFL QB. Shouldn't be that way but crippling diarrhea might be the only way he's getting pulled out of the game. On second thought, Cable would probably just put him in an adult diaper and leave him in there.

he would punch him in the face and then send him back in

Naw. Russell's got more clout with the big man than Cable. And coach knows that. He'd keep his hands to himself. As much as knock upside the head might be warranted.

probably used a suicide grip like this guy

OMFG! AHHHHHHHH. I have been trapped under the bar and know how painful that can be but I've never dropped it! ARGH! He will feel that in the morning.
-
yeah, i've been under the bar trying to squeeze out one more rep with no spotter. pretty embarrassing to roll the bar off your chest and onto your lap, but better than the alternatives.

Unfortunate incident. Hopefully, he'll have full recovery.
