The First Breakdown of the 2008 NFL Draft

Here is a look at some position ratings for the 2008 NFL draft. With a lack a senior talent, I have included junior who are projected to come out this year.

Quaterback

1. Matt Ryan-Boston College

2. Brian Brohm-Louisville

3. Andre Woodson-Kentucky

4. Colt Brennan-Hawaii

5. Chad Henne-Michigan

Others likely to be drafted- Dennis Dixon (Oregon), Joe Flacco (Delaware)

Running Back

1. Darren McFadden-Arkansas

2. Rashard Mendenhall-Illinois

3. Jonathan Stewart-Oregon

4. Mike Hart-Michigan

5. Ray Rice-Rutgers

Others likely to be drafted- Kevin Smith (UCF), Allen Patrick (Oklahoma)

Wide Receiver

1. Limas Sweed-Texas

2. Earley Doucet-LSU

3. Adarius Bowman-Oklahoma St.

4. DeSean Jackson-California

5. Mario Manningham-Michigan

Others likely to be drafted- Malcolm Kelly (Oklahoma), DJ Hall (Alabama)

Tight End

1. Fred Davis-USC

2. John Carlson-Notre Dame

3. Travis Beckum-Wisconsin

4. Martin Rucker-Missouri

5. Chase Coffman-Missouri

Offensive Line

1. Jake Long-Michigan

2. Samuel Baker-USC

3. Ryan Clady-Boise State

4. Jeffrey Otah-Pittsburgh

5. Micheal Oher-Ole Miss

Defensive Line

1. Chris Long-Virginia (DE)

2. Glenn Dorsey-LSU (DT)

3. Calais Campbell-Miami (DE)

4. Sedrick Ellis-USC (DT)

5. Vernon Gholston-Ohio State (DE)

Others likely to be drafted- Derrick Harvey (Florida), Kentwan Balmer (UNC)

Linebackers

1. James Laurinaitis-Ohio State

2. Dan Connor-Penn State

3. Keith Rivers-USC

4. Ali Highsmith-LSU

5. Rey Maualugor-USC

Defensive Backs

1. Kenny Phillips-Miami

2. Malcolm Jenkins-Ohio State

3. Aqib Talib-Kansas

4. Mike Jenkins-South Florida

5. Reggie Smith-Oklahoma

Justifications

1. If West Virginia does not win a national title, Steve Slaton will remain in school and take one more shot at the title with his teammate Pat White.

2. Chris Long is currently ranked above Glenn Dorsey due to Dorsey's constant injury problems (knee and back).

3. Dennis Dixon will be dropped in the draft due to his current injury (ACL). He dropped from a early 2nd round pick to a late 3rd to early 4th.

4. The running back position is very deep this year and could yield 15-20 running backs taken.

Watch in the coming weeks for the first mock draft projection.

Well I do not see how Henne gets ahead of Ainge, I can not stand Ainge but its the truth. If this is for the NFL, Henne wont amount to much of anything in the NFL. Earl Bennet is easily a top 5 reciever, who will most likely go pro. In the RB division Felix Jones is definitely a top 5 back probably a top 3. Who some say is a top 10 draft pick.

I think the best 2 quarterbacks played each other 2 days after Thanksgiving. Erik Ainge and Andre Woodson playing each other in big games will be something we see in the future. Both of them hve great talent and great coaching.(Randy Sanders was Peyton Mannings QB coach at UT) They both have played grueling schedules in the SEC for 4 years and are ready to play on Sunday. Another thing about Ainge people forget is that the O-line isn't the online reason UT has given up only 3 sacks this year, Ainge is smart with the football.

How can anyone think that James Laurenitis and Dan Conner are better linebacker prospects tahn Ali Highsmith. Have you seen this guy play! The other 2 i mentioned wouldn't even start f they played at 3 different SEC schools.(LSU, UT, and S.Carolina) They're numbers wouldn't have been so good if they played in a conference that wasn't as overrated as the big ten( SEC 1st- Pac-10 2nd- Big 12 3rd- ACC 4th- Big East 5th - Big Ten 6th) Ali Highsmith is perfect for a pro style 3-4 defense.

Where is Quentin Groves and Derrick Harvey on your D-Line list. Thats just sad that the best 2 DE aren't even on your list. Chris Long is 3rd, he will be great one day, but these two are perfect pass rushers

OK I am a SEC fan just like the rest, but you are getting a little overboard saying that the SEC has the best player in every position. Laurinitis is the best LB for sure. Quentin Groves gets hurt to much and that will make his stock go down. Derrick Harvey is very good and should be top three.

Actually the more I think about it the more I think Harvey is pretty good as a 6 or 7 best DE. Ole Miss has a DE cant think of his name but he should be top 3 not Harvey my bad.

I THINK THAT THE SEC CHAMP GAME SHOWED YOU THE POTENTIAL OF AINGE. PUT THE BALL IN THE SENIOR QUARTERBACKS HAND AND HE CHOKES. DURING THE BROADCAST HE WAS COMPARED TO MANNING. I THINK THAT COMPARISON WAS A JOKE. HE MAY GO QUICK IN THE DRAFT BUT HE WILL NEVER BE MORE THAN A SECOND STRING QB.

Quentin Groves is the best defensive end in the nation. Why isn't he in the top 5 best defensive lineman.

wat about davone bess or jason rivers from hawaii?

Dennis Dixon anyone? He went head-to-head with Henne and even in straight dropback comparisons, Henne wasn't close. Dixson can throw.
