It’s time for another transfer portal window. This time, it’s the spring window and the transfer portal will be open from now until April 30th. Predicting who will come or go is always difficult, but we wanted to take a look at things from a Nebraska football perspective.

Many fans are probably wondering if the Huskers would look to add a veteran quarterback. I’ve at least seen that talked about on social media and the message boards.

Frankly, I think adding another quarterback doesn’t make sense. Sure, I’d love a veteran but you don’t want to mess with the quarterback room or take away valuable reps. Now, if you can find a quarterback who’s willing to walk on with an NIL deal, take few reps, and be the No. 3 or No. 4, then yes, I’m all for it.

I don’t see that scenario happening. Heinrich Haarberg is the veteran for Nebraska. If Dylan Raiola or Daniel Kaelin are hurt or not ready, he can start. He won five games as a starter last season and has improved a lot this spring.

However, are there other needs Nebraska could address in the transfer portal? Are any moves likely?

I’d bet against Nebraska adding a transfer this spring

Nebraska football isn’t afraid to use the transfer portal, but they are much more focused on high school recruiting. If someone enters that Matt Rhule thinks who can help the team for the next 3-4 years, then yes, an addition is possible.

This team doesn’t have a lot of glaring needs though. Maybe if an all-conference cornerback entered the transfer portal, that would be worth the addition. Maybe a linebacker, but the Huskers have veterans or young, developing players at every single position.

The depth chart is kind of impressive. It features a lot of young players but there isn’t one position that I’m not optimistic about. Therefore, Nebraska doesn’t need to do anything crazy. Don’t mess with the culture and the locker room for some average Joe.

If a true impact player comes along, you never say no to that, but I don’t see much activity this spring. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Huskers don’t add a single player from the spring transfer window.
