Texas A&M Aggies defensive back Jacoby Mathews was arrested on Tuesday night on possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, per Brazos County Jail records.

Mathews was released on Tuesday on $3,000 bond.

According to reports from the Houston Chronicle, Texas A&M is looking into the matter.

Per Texas law, possession of two ounces or less of marijuana is a misdemeanor and is punishable by up to 180 days imprisonment, and a fine not to exceed $2,000.

Mathews, a five-star safety out of Louisiana and a member of the Aggies record-setting 2022 recruiting class was a key depth piece of the defense at times last season in College Station, racking up 25 tackles, 15 solo tackles, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery from his back up safety position.

He also started the final three games of the 2022 season for Texas A&M.

Against Florida last season, Mathews had a season-high 15 tackles and two pass breakups in the 41-24 loss.

Mathews came on so strong last season, in fact, that he was awarded the special team Most Improved award at the annual team banquet.
