You better bet that Alabama is ready to start the season in the Georgia Dome against Virginia Tech Saturday. Because if they’re not- they’re not the team they should be. But if you, as a fan, need to get your last minute head lines and information headed into the starting whistle, I’ve got you covered. DON’T TAKE VIRGINIA TECH LIGHTLY  Reason one being- your team shouldn’t be underestimating them either. While it would seem a victory for the Hokies would take a major breakdown in Alabama’s game plan, they still have some weapons on their team that could pose threats to the Tide. Last year, was not entirely impressive for Virginia Tech, who finished 7-6, but their defense showed great potential. VT defense was ranked second in the ACC last year, and the young secondary that’s still here looks pumped to ruin what Alabama’s offense is planning. Also, never forget this is a Frank Beamer team. Among other things that make his teams characteristic of him, special teams ranks among the top. That means being on your toes. Now we all know that games aren’t played with statistics on paper or circumstances of the past- and that’s what the Hokies are banking on now. “Obviously a little bit of the pressure is taken off of us,” said VT quarterback Logan Thomas.  “You know we’re the ones that are expected to be beat by 21 or what ever it is, so it makes it a little bit easier in that aspect but we don’t expect any Alabama team to come out dead and come out expecting us to be under the radar at all, they’re going to come give 100 percent of their work.” “How often do you get a chance to play the best team in the country? I mean how many times do you get to wake up in the morning and have that opportunity?” Asked Hokie Head Coach Frank Beamer on Friday. “And its a good thing that the games not decided by always who should win- it’s who does win.” GEORGIA DOME IS HOME Alabama has played in the Georgia Dome eight times and has five wins in the venue… five memorable and significant victories, including kicking off a National Championship run at the dome in 2009. Something, they hope to be doing again Saturday. The Georgia Dome is a second home for the Alabama faithful who fill its seats and make the environment one of the loudest to play in. The last time the Tide lost in their “second home” was against the Gators in 2008. Sadly, their win-streak in the current Georgia Dome will have to end. A new dome is being constructed and expected to be finished in 2017… meaning the venue with so many special Alabama memories will be no more. All the more reason to make this go around the best one yet. MOST DISCUSSED TOENAIL Yup, you read that correctly. As Nick Saban and WVUATV Sport’s Director Gary Harris have said, AJ McCarron’s toenail has become the most discussed in college football. The reason is he was seen wearing a boot on Friday, starting rumors of stress fractures and other terrifying nightmarish scenarios that threatened the idea of a starting McCarron quarterback. However, you can breathe easy. The boot was just an extra precaution against an ingrown toenail. SAVOR THIS SEASON We are just hours away from the start of Alabama’s 2013 season and I will tell you what I am trying to remember myself. Be a fan, savor this season, because what we are about to witness is history in the making, and what we have already witnessed is something not every fan base gets a chance to, so be grateful.
