Sparky the Sun Devil has a new look. The Arizona State mascot has been reimagined by the Walt Disney Corporation. The new Sparky is bulkier with a more “kid-friendly” face. The current official logo of Sparky holding a pitchfork will continue to be used on merchandise but the new logo will be integrated into Sun Devil gear as well. Sparky has been ASU’s mascot for over 60 years. In 1946, ASU alumnus and former Walt Disney animator, Bert Anthony, designed the logo. There have been rumors that Anthony based the look of Sparky on Walt Disney himself. ASU said the new Sparky’s first public appearance will be at the ASU spring football game.
