Two years ago, the iconic trees on the campus of Auburn University at Toomer’s Corner were poisoned. The university has tried desperately to save the trees, but the damage is apparently too much. University officials have announced that they will remove the trees. “The Oaks at Toomer’s Corner have been a part of Auburn tradition for generations,” Debbie Shaw, Auburn University vice president for alumni affairs and executive director of the Auburn Alumni Association, said in a statement. “Their removal will in no way diminish the Auburn Spirit, which has grown even stronger during these past two years.” Prior to the trees removal, the university did say they would have one more roll in the Spring. The rolling of the Trees dates back to the 1950s, and the final one will take place after the team’s Spring game. The trees were allegedly poisoned by Harvey Updyke Jr back in 2011. He is set to stand trial for the incident in April. Auburn officials also announced the plan to build structures for the students to gather at following big games and other events.

One of college football’s most storied traditions will come to an end this spring.
