Defending Big 12 football champion Baylor has made its decision at quarterback, according to multiple reports. Blake Shapen will come into the 2022 season as starter, beating incumbent senior Gerry Bohanon.

As a result, Bohanon decided to enter the college football transfer portal, according to 247Sports. Bohanon is a grad transfer with up to two years of eligibility after the NCAA granted a free year of eligibility during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shapen logged important snaps for Baylor in his first season as backup after Bohanon was injured, completing 72.1 percent of his passes for 596 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Shapen started for Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game, completing his first 17 passes with three TDs to give the Bears a 21-3 halftime lead over Oklahoma State en route to the conference title.

Bohanon was a 63 percent passer a year ago with 2,200 yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in his one outing as Baylor's starting quarterback. He rushed for nine additional touchdowns while compiling a 12-2 record and a Sugar Bowl win. His 12 victories are a Baylor football record.
