Tyler Hunter and Florida State look to start 3-0 for a second straight season. (Photo: Steve Cannon) Florida State and Bethune-Cookman will get set to square off on Saturday with both schools coming off of wins in Week 3. The Seminoles rallied from an early 7-3 deficit against Nevada to score 59 unanswered points in a 62-7 victory. Florida State however, wasn’t the only Florida school to impress on Saturday as Bethune-Cookman, a FCS school, pounded Florida International 34-13 behind 311 yards rushing. The teams will arrive in Tallahassee on Saturday a combined 5-0. Florida State comes in ranked eighth in the country and averaging more than 50 points-per-game through two contests. Florida State finished with 377 yards on the ground in Saturday’s victory over Nevada with 110 coming from Karlos Williams, a converted safety, who also added a touchdown in his first game at tailback. Devonta Freeman rushed for 109 yards and a score for FSU in Saturday’s victory as well. In Saturday’s home-opening victory, eight different Seminoles found pay dirt including Freddie Stevenson and Ryan Green, who each scored their first career touchdown. Quarterback Jameis Winston was once again efficient going 15-for-18 with 214 yards passing and two scores. Winston was able to put his first career interception behind him as well by finishing the game with 13 straight completions. Through two games, Winston has more passing touchdowns (6) than incompletions (5). Defensively, Florida State also overcame a slow start. The Seminoles gave up 142 yards in the first half, but held the Wolf Pack to only 72 yards of offense in the second half. Tyler Hunter recorded his first interception of the season for Florida State’s only forced turnover of the day. Bethune-Cookman comes into the contest with a record of 3-0 after beating down Florida International in south Florida on Saturday. Anthony Jordan rushed for 150 yards and a score for the Wildcats in the victory and was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week. Jordan and fellow tailback Cary White have combined to rush for 359 yards this season while averaging 6.6 yards-per-carry. Bethune-Cookman will become the third school that Florida State has played from the FCS in the last two seasons. FSU defeated both Murray State and Savannah State last year by a combined 124-3 margin. In eight match-ups against FCS schools since 2005, Florida State has outscored its opponent by a combined 441-45 margin. That’s an average score of 55-6. In 2009 however, Florida State did have to score in the final minute to avoid being upset by Jacksonville State in a 19-9 victory at Doak Campbell Stadium. Few are expecting a highly competitive game on Saturday, but history has shown as has the early parts of this season that nothing is for certain. Saturday’s day game will kick off shortly after 6:00 P.M. eastern time and will be the final non-conference game for the Seminoles before a run of seven straight ACC games. Florida State will look to get off to a 3-0 start for a second straight season while the Wildcats are hoping to be competitive against a FBS school for the second time in as many weeks. Bethune-Cookman has not gotten off to a 4-0 start since 2010.
